I'm sitting here trying out this beer cause it was discounted at TJ's for clearance.
Look, I'm not gonna try to describe all those flavors other reviewers used but it at least has flavor---still better than Corona. Not to dis Corona, but I tried it once or twice and...
On the plus side, I did catch a buzz which probably disqualifies me for even writing a review. This is actually my first review after lurking for years. Pluses? It's not bad for a cheap discounted beer.
Happy Friday the 13th.
Nuff said. Yay beer!

My brother got this for very cheap at Trader Joes. With it being a winter ale still available in the spring and Trader Joes generally having some pretty good beer deals, it wasn't a total shock to find this for so cheap. It ended up being a decent, fairly complex brew but I wouldn't go out of my way to buy it.
The taste almost reminded me of a bourbon barrel aged beer as there seemed to be some faint hint of bourbon or some other hard liquor. I also got fruits and sweet malts. Although it was a pretty tasty beer, the taste was almost a little too much, almost like there was too much of something but I am not sure what.

12 oz single as "KBC Winter Ale" from Trader Joes ,Salem OR. $1 Nice darker amber colored ale..with reddish tones. A small yet persistent tan head..turns to great lashings of lace Good toasty cereal aromas and fresh roasted coffee beans, some hazelnuts and raisin too..nice stuff. Smooth yet bitter tasting beer..semi dark chocolate, cream, burnt toast, oats then nice herbal/slight resinous hops. Good and drinkable on the tongue for such a heavy beer. Overall very pleased with this stuff. Its a marvel it survived at all given the terrible treatment TJs hands out to beer. best $1 beer ever

Poured this Winter Ale from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. Poured a semi hazy brown color, produced an off white head, nice retention and lacing left on the glass. The aroma of this winter ale consists of brown bread, cinnamon and spice. Medium in body, this brew is chewy and features the fruitiness of apples, raisins and sweet brown sugar. While the flavor of this beer is nice, it is very off balanced - there is an initial intense flavor that peaks and then flatlines like no other beer i have tasted - You have to try to see what I mean. Awkward finish- I will not be buying this in the future. Prost.

12oz bottle served in a glass beer mug.
L - chestnut brown with a off-white head that thinned out but still left trails of lacing.
S - sweet caramel malt and a hint of spices.
T - very malt forward with a touch of ginger finishing caramel sweet on the tongue and lips.
F - medium bodied with a smooth feel and easy drinkability for a beer near 7% abv.
O - a good example of the style at a very reasonable price.
Note: I'm not sure about how fresh the beer was that the other reviewers drank?
I got this beer as it was being packed out at my local Trader Joe's and was told that it just came in. I'm assuming it was very fresh because it tasted darn good for $1 a bottle.

A suspiciously red cast to the dark amber-- not copper, but a fruity red. So of course after the first sip I keep thinking of red licorice. Possibly it's Gummi Worm flavor. But there is plenty of malt to go with the spices and odd candy taste. Aroma is more like wet cardboard and cereal. Still, it's a big flavor with some currants and roasted malt. Hops come on in the aftertaste, which features some bitter metallic notes. Tastes more drinkable after a few sips, but I'd rather just add some SN Celebration to a couple cans of Simpler Times lager for a better result.
In the convenient screw-cap long neck. From Trader Joe's.

12 oz. bottle,
A: Pours a clear brown with a medium off-white head, some lace.
S: Some notes of cinnamon/spice, some toasty brown malt.
T: Over sugarfied malt. Some fruit, raisins, light hoppiness, but dominated by that one brown sugar flavour.
M: Cloying, that's just the way it is. Nothing really to balance the sugar makes it a tough beer to drink. Medium-bodied overall.
O: A good price, but I really didn't get anymore. There are so many better winter warmers that aren't that much pricier. Kind of a mess in the end.

A: Pours a deep reddish/mahogany color with a thin caramel colored head. Looks harmless enough.
S: Uh oh, things not looking as good anymore. Strange bready malt smell with a ton of buttery yeast, butterscotch, a bit of booze and some cardboard.
T: Dammit, why do I keep trying these beers? Why??? This is just flat out bad. Not on the level of Kennebunkport's IPA (the worst beer I've ever had by far), but it's trying hard to get there. The flavors are all over the place. Starts with some roasted malt, but quickly bounces to notes of buttered popcorn and metal. Finish is a bit nutty with some more bread and baby aspirin. Truly regrettable.
