It has been a long time since I stepped foot in Primo's. Too long. As a kid my parents would take me there for dinner, I would get the "Nathan Special", which was a plate with rolled lunch meat, cheese, and fruit.
The atmosphere is the same, and I'm glad. A very nice collection of beers to choose from and some of the best deli sandwiches in Akron. Beer memorabilia and signs are everywhere. For the LotR nerds out there, there is a very rare Gandalf poster in the room to the left.
The beer selection is a highlight of great beers available in Akron, especially Belgians. Its not very often I've been in a deli that has Geuze in the cooler.
This is a must see if your in the Akron area.

It’s a pretty small place. I just stopped in to check out their beer selection, so I didn’t eat. I will eventually though. As far as beer goes, they have a nice selection considering the size of the place. I was surprised to see some of the beers they had. The price is a little high...I’ve never paid $14 for a 4 pack of Old Stock Ale till I went here. However, considering the selection and that it’s a mom and pop kind of shop, I’m ok forking over a little extra money. I’m very happy to have went and I will return!

After two trips to Primo's, I had to review it. THis is now my favorite place in the area. I live about 10 minutes from it, and will now go any time I can. Their Spicy Italian sub is amazing, the staff is helpful and friendly. And then the beer. This is the best part. great selection for drinking there or taking home, including bombers. This place opened my eyes to the glory of Belgian Trappist beers, the best there being the Rochefort 10. Got a 4 pack of Duvel with a tulip glass for $20! Definitly need to go if you ever get a chance!!

This is a place you pretty much have to know about or you'd probably skip right by it. It looks like a real hole in the wall from the outside, modest is an understatement. The road in front of it is set up in such a way that you could easily miss it too.
On the inside it looks kind of like a dive too, but looks are deceiving. I'd guess about 12 tables with seating for 48 or so, custom made sandwiches being the main business. Along one wall there are coolers filled with all kinds of beers, from Belgians through Americans, 11.7oz through 750mL. The selection was really good for a sandwich shop, unfortunately no taps though.
I've only been to one similar set-up, that one was the Stuffed Sandwich in LA. Big differences in the S.S.'s favor include the availability of taps and the huge "cellar" of beers that the owner might make available based on your selections. In Primo's favor is the fact that you can buy beer to go without buying food first.
EDIT: On a recent visit I saw they now have taps (6-8 I think). The likes of Great Lakes Nasferatu, Great Lakes Christmas Ale, Blue Moon (wha?), and some others. The GL stuff was good though. And the bottles are out of this world, including somewhat rare stuff here and there.

Stopped in Primo's Deli for lunch at the suggestion of the guys at Thirsty Dog Brewing. Very unassuming from the outside...never would guess there is a premium beer selection within its walls.
You enter into the main dining area which is pretty much a random collection of tables and chairs. You can buy freshly sliced deli items for a counter the runs along the left side of the building. The left wall houses a few coolers that are full of good beer...lots of domestic craft, some locals and a few imports. The back wall has sixers and singles to go.
The food is pretty much what you would expect from a deli...sandwiches, soups, etc. I had their signature italian grinder (hoagie, sub, i forget what it was called). Pretty darn tasty!
If you are in the Akron area, this is a affordable place to eat a pick up a few brews...worth checking out for sure!

Found this place after visiting Hoppin' Frog Brewery in Akron.
The guys at the brewery recommended Primo's when I asked about a good beer store nearby. A short 10-15 minute drive from there I found Primo's.
The area it is located in is next to an almost dead shopping plaza and doesn't look like much from the exterior of the building.
However I was pleasantly suprised when I walked in and viewed one side of the room with a generous selection of room temperature beers and next to it several coolers with cold offerings.
The selection was great and the staff friendly. I will be back not only for the beers but also to try the food as well as I did not get a chance to do this the first time here.

This has been one of my regular beer stops for a while now, and I just realized that I haven't reviewed it yet. A major strength of Primo's is that it is a beer store, but also a restaurant, and it does a good job with both. Beer memorabilia hangs on the walls, giving it a brewpub feel. The atmospehere when shopping and dining can feel a bit crowded, being as the dining room consists of two big open rooms. The beer coolers are located in the first dining room, close to the kitchen, which can cause some annoying server traffic when you are browsing the selection. Fortunately, an occassional server will offer assistance. The selection is large-ish, but not as big as other stores in the area. The reason that I fregquent this place is due to the fact that the stock here is unique, and they carry many brews that you can't find at West Point or Riverside in Kent. Some beers even seem to be unique by BA standards and have few reviews here on the site. CAUTION!!!!: stock doesn't seem to move very often, as evident be the cobwebs on the Chimay display, and I have inadvertantly purchased beers that were more than 6 months past their freshness dates. Perhaps the best reason to go here is for a mixed six pack. Sure, lots of places offer this, but most still charge you by the single bottle rate for all six beers. Not Primo's. Here, a knowledgable member of the staff will check out what you have and estimate a price based on that. Everytime I've got a mixed sixer, the price has always been significantly lower than expected. Definitely worth stopping by.

This is my kind of place. Seat yourself, simple, no ties, no blaring music, no bullsh*t. Great selection of beer lines two walls. My waitress knew the menu, but didn't know the beers. I had to point out where the Hop Devil and Golden Monkey were in the cooler or it might have taken her some time. Took a bit too long to get the food, but we had a couple of fine brews to enjoy, so WTF. I'll go back every chance I get because the food was really tasty (I had wings and a salad, wife had turkey reuben), the atmosphere was great.

Primo's is located on Wooster Rd which is slightly north of the I-76 interchange on I-77. Parking is limited and is kind of scary because the lot is right on top of the road and you might have to pull in slowly.
The atmosphere is heaven for a person who likes beer and deli food. Seating is in the center portion of the deli and there is beer every which way you turn. Coolers of beer, shelves of beer, breweriana, coasters etc. There is also another room for dining but why would you want to go in there? The only downside is that it is distracting to have all that beer to look at while you are supposed to be eating or talking to your dining companion.
The beer selection is very good. Anything from Stone, GLBC, Founder's, Avery etc to tons of imports from around the world. The best part is they actually encourage you to mix and match singles for a flat $7.99 per 6-pack. Awesome! You can select any of the beers in the cooler to go with your sandwich and get a couple beers like Red Seal on tap too.
The service here is good and everyone I encountered knew the beer.
Primo's food is fantastic especially if you like deli-type fare. The meatball sandwich I had was one of the best I have had. Chips are on the table to snack on before the food arrives and to eat with your order.
I will definitely make it a point to visit Primo's again when I am in the Akron/Canton area. It is well worth finding for any visitor to the vicinity.

So let me explain Primos as best I can. It's a restaurant with a bunch of scattered tables. They focus on sandwiches and beer and both come with many choices. They are also a beer store where you can come in and take from any six-pack and mix your own singles. They also have some bombers and Belgiums, Fantôme Saison was one I snagged just because I hadn't seen it anywhere else. Bell's, Great Lakes, Victory, Orval, and Stone just to get an idea. The usual selection for a good Ohio beer store with some shining stars in the mix. Plenty of variety to please anyone.
As a beer store, the only problem is the coolers are in the restaurant so you have to walk through and stand out in the open with people around you eating while you drool, youll get over it once you see the choices.
The owner or at least beer purchaser, from what I gather, was very nice. We talked about Saisons for a minute; they just ran out of his favorite, Dupont. So from that I guess the rotation is pretty good.
They also have amazing desserts, especially their carrot cake.
Closed on Sundays as of right now.
