Appearance: Moderate, creamy off-white head adorns a golden orange body. The head retention is decent, the lacing thin, and glass-coating.
Aroma: Moderate ripe banana esters dominate the aroma. The bread notes a very subtle, with a little caramel.
Taste: Opens with a strong note of ripe banana, this carries throughout the taste. Although the banana notes are omnipresent, they do not dominate the taste, there is also a strong English hop presence throughout, as well as a backdrop of toasted malt. There is a slight toasted malt character which may verge on nuttiness, or perhaps I simply expect it because I like banana bread. Finishes with a restrained hop presence.
Mouth feel: Smooth, soft, a touch thin, with a bit of rough carbonation.
Drinkability/notes: A not unpleasant example, it could be bette, especially, as others have noted, the base beer was a Hefeweizen or a Weizen Dopplebock. Still, its an interesting beer, and one not likely to be seen often.
Presentation Packaged in a custom 19.25 ounce (an imperial pint!) brown glass bottle with a pry-off crown, served in a New Belgium Brewing chalice.
Serving type: bottle
