Presentation: 16.9oz. brown bottle; "best before end" warning notched on the back label's bottom periphery; purchased from the SM Trader Joe's on Pico and 34th for $1.99.
Appearance: Light amber hue; very good clarity; sudsy, three-fingered head; a good c-cup's worth of lace; good head retention.
Aroma: Nicely of sweet malt and maple syrup with a touch of spice thrown in.
Taste: Not nearly as sweet as the nose might lead you to expect; very well balanced; lightly malty upfront with notes of toffee and caramel; a tad spicy; finish is appropriately bitter in a woody, herbal sort of way; quite buttery with an ever so faint sour quality; fruity esters abound; medium bodied with a crisp, lively mouthfeel.
Notes: Excellent ESB.
Serving type: bottle
