Notes & Commercial Description:
Beer added by: rastaman on 05-07-2003

An especially imported Bavarian yeast strain gives Emerson’s Weissbier its authentic German character. The beer pours a cloudy, pale golden colour, and has a sweet bready aroma with notes of banana and sherbet. In the mouth the beer is spicy and tart, with some grainy sweetness. With age, Emerson’s WeissBier develops a clove-like aroma and the taste becomes softer and more cidery. Bottle Conditioned.

a: golden yellow color, clear with lots of carbonated spirals and thick head that settles to finger-depth
s: clove & banana aromas, yeast. smells more like a lighter belgian
t: banana flavors upfront with something else sweet, clove with a crisp, clean finish. again, belgian-like.
m: light creamy body, plenty of carbonation especially on the finish, a crisp refreshing beer
d: perhaps this one isn't so true to the style, but this another great brew from the folks down in dunedin & i enjoyed it more than most of the hefe weizens i've tried. reasonably light with great flavor & mouthfeel.

Pours a cloudy pale straw colour with orange tinges. Fluffy head that falls away leaving a thin layer over the top.
Smell is spicey with some fruity esters.
A bit more bubblegum sweetness comes through in the taste with an ever so slight tart finish.
Quite a full mouthfeel, pretty high carbonation.
I could see myself drinking this a fair bit in summer.

Very cloudy but
with brownish hue that mars the golden haze. The head is white and reasonably persistent.
Plenty of banana and subdued cloves that dominate the taste and smell. It is a trifle yeasty (which has a blandness)
The mouhfeel is watery and has a middle strength crsipness/bitterness.
A credible beer again from Emersons. The best example of this style from the southern hemisphere that I can recall

A: Pours a cloudy near opaque bright yellow. Big puffy white head with decent retention. Tons of carbonation evident.
S: Banana, sherbert, clove and yeast. Where's the wheat?
T: Dominated by the grains with banana and some candy/bubblegumish notes. Nice hint of clove throughout as well. Kind of a metallic quality to this brew. Bitter yeast finish.
M: Effervescent indeed... champagne like. Clean crisp light body.
D: Certainly not the greatest Hefe but not too bad either. Would particularly like to see a little more wheat come through in the nose and taste.

3 May 2006, Best Before May 06

Cloudy pale orange colour. Large foamy dense white head. Good retention and some lacing. Soft wheat aroma. Flavour is mostly wheaty and malty. Some banana-ish taste. Light in body with medium carbonation. Didn't find this had a huge flavour. Hopefully only because I drank it at the best before date. Every other Emersons beer I've tried has been excellent.

Champagne effervescent, warm hazy gold topped by a wonderfully large and rocky cumulus head of white speckled with dark yeastlets. Spicy, sweetish banana nose with light toffee, faint metal, and fruity bubblegum. Smells like a Bavarian weiss beer and tastes like one too! Candyish, yet soft wheat malt with ample banana and clove. Spicy throughout with a yeasty, thrist-quenchingly dry finish. Full-bodied wheat ale with an almost overly-effervescent feel. Very good.

Bottled AIBA 2003: A wonderful weissbier from a fantastic brewer. This has all the characteristics of the best German wheats. Estery banana and clovey nose, smooth, mouthfeel, with s crisp refrshing finish. Lots of banana, with some sweet lightly tart malts. You'd be hard pressed to fins a better Weissbier in the Southern Hemisphere. Delicious.
