poured into a pint glass.

A.

a nice orange color. hardly any head however. not sure it was the pour or the beer itself.

S.

first thing i get is a big whiff of bananas. a little wheat smell and subtle clove and bubblegum smell. banana is dominant.

T.

banana flavor first and some bitterness in there. strongest banana tasting weiss beer i've had. shouldve just called it a banana wheat ale. still excellent though as i love bananas.

M.

light-medium bodied. carbonation is low which is disappointing. I'm hoping its just the bottle. (only bought 1). I do plan on buying a sixer of this however.

D.
very high. would be perfect on a hot day. I could easily have another 2-3 more of these consecutively.

This weiss beer is unique, yet similar to a traditional wheat.

12 oz. bottle into a weizen glass

Pours a deep golden-orange with appropriate haze. A three-quarter inch ivory head on top. Really nice sheet of lace left on the entire glass.

Aroma is dominated by banana esters with a good bready malt backing it up. A bit of pear and lychee fruit. Minimal clove.

Taste is semi-sweet up front with banana up front along with the bready wheat malt character. Towards the finish it gets oddly bitter though with a bit too much noble hop flavor and bitterness for a traditional Hefeweizen. There's a slight clove character that makes for a bit of a bite. Combined with the hop bitterness, it's somewhat unpleasant though.

Mouthfeel is on the light side, pretty good for the style in carbonation, and easy drinking.

Not a bad offering from Back Road, it's got a lot of nice traditional Hefeweizen characteristics but the extra use of noble hops doesn't really seem to help the beer. Instead it seems to obscure what would be a really nice and very drinkable Hefe.
