Best before end of 01/01/2009:

750 ml foil-wrapped cage-corked bottle, poured into a fluted glass.

Pours clouded with a light golden body and a fluffy white head that thins and stays, leaving plenty of lacing. Head and lacing saves the day here, as the body is not much to look at, though not a "turn off", particularly.

The smell is of lemon peel, some breadiness. Pleasant, different, aroma.

The taste is herbal/floral/lemony with grainy notes and yeast. More "beer" than "champagne" taste, for sure. There is a dry yeastiness to it. It finishes dry.

Well-carbonated, but not really effervescent.

Alcohol is reasonably well-covered for abv, though it does show some. A beer-drinkers replacement for champagne. Interesting style. I do prefer this to the Deus, which I thought less complex/more yeasty. A unique beer for a special occassion.

This beer is supposed to beer a mix between a champagne wine and regular beer, but except for the yeast flavor and the bottle type, i really didn't taste the link with a 'champagne'. It is a decent blond beer, with a very strong carbonation where the yeast flavor and smell (champagne yeast) is very dominant.

Bought at De Bierkoning in Amsterdam.

As is the style - highly carbonated, had to wait a bit for it to settle. But well worth the wait. The dry hopped flavor is really on show, bringing out a character not unlike a double IPA. Definitely recommended if you have not tried this style.

States best before "DL 109/112 B102B03". Whatever that means.

A: Pours a super cloudy gold with a lots of sediment. Enormous frothy white head. Head fades slowly, leaving a nice island behind. Spotty little thin chunks of lacing.

S: Grassy notes. Light, crackery malt. Some tart grape skin.

T: Again, grassy up front with lemons. Sharp, cracker-like malt. Has light tart components, again like a green grape skin. Not sour, just a little tart and sharp. A little honey in there. Kind of a dry, yeasty finish with a little pear, almost typical of a regular champagne. No real sign of alcohol.

M: Medium bodied, quite airy with good carbonation (of course).

O: Not a bad biere de champagne. It's surprisingly light with hidden alcohol, especially given 12% ABV. Not nearly as good as the Enlightenment Brut I had recently though, I doubt I'd get this one again. This one is a little drier and more like a typical champagne, I will say.
