Pours a very dark orange/copper. Not as bubbly as some other Belgians.
Smell is lots of dark fruit, spices.
Taste is lots of the same, exactly what you want/expect from a big fruity quadruple, but the added thing here is a spicy finish that is noticeably different from, say Rochefort or St Bernardus.
Mouthfeel: the 12% alcohol is pretty well hidden, but this is not a beer you would ever want to gulp. Its meant to be sipped.
Overall, this quad is a little different and a lot underrated. Wonderful big beer.

Bottle pour at The Belgians Are Coming held in Old Town Newhall in Newhall, CA.

Pours a clear copper with a foamy khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, dark fruit, brown sugar, toffee, and alcohol aromas. Taste is much the same with dark fruit and toffee flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer that is tasty but fairly boozy and strong.

I tried this at Quencher's Saloon in Chicago. $8 for a 330ml brown bottle poured into a brandy snifter.

The beer was dark brown in color - almost black. Just 1-finger's worth of tan head that dissipated to just a rim in under a minute. Not much lacing to speak of.

Huge fruit and candy smell. Picking up mostly sweet prunes and raisins along with some alcohol.

Heavily malted with a burnt sugar taste. Plums, prunes, and raisins make up the fruit component while the alcohol imparts a spicy peppery taste. Hops are herbal and not that bitter.

Silky smooth and full bodied mouthfeel with a warming alcohol feeling on the way down. Carbonation is medium.

At 12% alcohol this is definitely a sipping beer, and a good one at that.

Malheur 12 has an extremely thick, fizzy, foamy, beige head, which dies away, leaving no lacing, and a clear, very bubbly, copper appearance. The beer clouds up when the bottom caked contents and swished and poured in. The aroma is of rich, overly-ripe fruit, yeasty bread, and brandy. Taste is rich- brandy, bitter, old fruit, and dark, sweet bread crust. Mouthfeel is medium to heavy and slick. Malheur 12 finishes semi-dry, rich, sweet, alcohilic, and somewhat harsh. Overall, this is a very good, strong, manly ale, and I loved it!
