Hevelius Beer is named after Johannes Hevelius - a famous Polish astronomer (1611-1687) with a tremendous passion for the stars. He built his own observatory in Gdansk and catalogued 1564 stars, discovered 4 comets, and was one of the first to observe the transit of Mercury.

First brewed in Gdansk in 1690, Hevelius Beer began with a proud heritage of Polish tradition and excellent brewing process. Named in honor of Johannes Hevelius, one of the most famous brewers in Gdansk, no beer could equal the superb Hevelius brand. Even the king, Jan Sobieski, preferred Hevelius beer over others.

Today, after three hundred years of tradition we are proud to bring you a product that has been cherished by so many generations.

As it sits in the glass, limpid amber in color, the head immense in it size, frothy consistency with oodles of fine lace to cover the glass. Nose is malt, somewhat musk, or moldy if you like with a quite sweet start and middling top. The beer finishes with a strong acidic bite, purposeful hop presence, and a alcohol bitter dry aftertaste. The high ABV warms the tummy and makes this a bit more robust than I would have thought.

500 ml bottle, mystery date code

Pours a clear medium golden in color, minimal head. Sweet grainy aroma. Taste is similar, with a bit of mild earthiness in the finish. Thin to medium bodied.

500mL bottle Best Before L2119616P22:25
poured into a becher glass at fridge temp 8.7% ABV. The beer pours bright medium amber with light khaki colored head. The head recedes to a thin ring and single layer of bubbles. Minimal lacing. The aroma is unpleasant frankly with a strange sweetness and dusty grain. The taste is fairly sweet caramel malt with apple & pear before the mildly bitter, ethanol soaked finish. The mouthfeel is medium plus bodied with average carbonation and an undry & sticky finish. Overall, not great, but I suspect age could be an issue. Not looking to test the theory though...

Not really sure why this beer gets such low ratings. I feel like I want to ask other reviewers: "do you like the Euro-Strong lager style?"
It's 8.7%. Hides it very well, my opinion. It's somewhat hefty on the pallet, but what do you expect?
There's definitely enough hop bitterness to balance the alcohol and sweetness.
I would not consider this beer sweet. It's heavy-ish on the pallette, but not more than a Belgian quad or an american double IPA.
I think if one approaches this offering with an open mind and tongue, they will be pleasantly surprised.

Takes me back to the hostels and AirBnB's I stayed at while traveling through the Czech Republic and Hungary; but this beer tastes even better. More balanced, less sweet and less off-flavors.
A lot of the higher ABV, Plastic-Bottled, malt-liquor equivalents available widely over there are sickeningly sweet. This is NOT that.

Go to your local beer shop, buy a stout or double IPA at 8.7% or more and compare it to this; in sweetness, body and malt flavor. Compare that beer to this one.

I enjoyed this bottle and would definitely buy it again if I saw it.

Undecipherable date code; drank 6/9/22 @ the Yarchives.

See-through dull orange rust appearance.

An even pour yielded a small eggshell head; decent lace.

Caramel corn, mild booze heat & faint strawberry notes in the nose.

Medium thick, sticky mouthfeel.

Honey, caramel & faint strawberry flavors; booze heat emerged as this warmed.

It's too sweet, but drinkable. It'll do in a pinch.

500ml bottle into a pint glass. Best by coding impossible to figure out without a decoder ring.

Looks pretty good, pale amber body with a strong white head which persists throughout leaving excellent lacing.

Boozy malty aroma.

Taste pretty much follows the nose, quite sweet as well.

Mouth above medium, finish warm and boozy.

Overall, decent for a euro strong lager. Glad to have tried it, but not something I'd want too often.

Im sampling a cold 16.9fl oz bottle poured into my .5L dimple mug. Picked up the bottle at the beer store in town for part of the online malt liquor / strong lager tasting. Best Before date is L1218616P02:15.

The beer pours a bright clear copper to bronze color with a fluffy eggshell white head of 1.5 cm. This foam fades to a thin edge layer and some wispy islands soon after the pour.
Aroma on this one is a bit of bready malt and some white grapes and a bit of skunky hop note. No booziness which is nice considering almost 9% ABV.
First sip reveals a medium body with almost no carbonation and fairly slick mouthfeel.
Flavor is briefly caramel and then a little toasted grain and moves to some light fruit notes of white grape and finishes with a bit of earthy and black tea hop bite. Finish is also very dry. ABV never shows through on this beer, and Im finishing the glass much faster than I thought I would.
I think this is a pretty decent beer and am surprised by this fact. Id drink this again and may even buy it again at some point.

Good ethnic brew. If you find it in your local liquor store give it a try.

From the bottle, it pours a clear amber color with a nice one inch head that reduces to a thin layer. In the nose, it is caramel malt, bread and some alcohol noted. The mouth gets caramel malt, alcohol and sweet malts. Smooth in the mouth and pleasant aftertaste. Nice overall.

Clear amber with two fingers of bubbly white foam. Huge sweet caramel malt, decent booze, grassy hops, and general phenols. Taste has very strong booze that clashes with the surprisingly dank hops, but the malt notes, though sweet, are pleasant underneath this confrontation. Lingering earth and grass help the beer recover. Still, out of balance, same with the feel, high booze and carbonation are notorious enemies and both are present, still good euro strong ale feel with the malt and viscosity despite this setback. Solid but I don't need to have again

500ml bottle served in a nonic glass.

Look- Clear copper color. Modest off white head that recedes fairly quickly to a solid ring of foam, light lacing. Some very active carbonation streams visible.

Smell- Caramel malt and honey, red apple and pear, raisins and a bit of citrus and booze, floral/grassy notes.

Taste- Pear and red apple, lemony citrus, sweet malts and burnt sugar, light booze, faint floral/grassy hops and light spice.

Feel- Medium/light bodied. Crisp with a sweet finish, almost no hop bitterness. Medium carbonation on the tongue.

O- For being basically a Polish malt liquor this is surprisingly good! Blows American malt liquors out of the water and a great deal at about $2.50 a bottle.
