Tried this beer at home, bottle-conditioned, at just the right temperature. The first time I had it it was in a B&B in Brugge, Belgium, when it tasted so great that I promised myself to try it again in the future.

Here it goes:
The one I had has best before date of June 2006.
It has a golden/blond, nice, but thin foamy head.
Smell: perfumy, "red-bean paste" (as in Chinese cuisine, key ingredient for a lot of traditional "puddings") and sweetish nose.
Taste: Not too bad really... Tastes peachy, honeyish...it was round, BUT very gassy on the other hand... a pity.
Aftertaste: lingering gingery/spicy and "green-tea"-like dry hoppyness. BUT (again), a bit thin and not long-lasting enough as everyone would have expected from a strong, Belgian blond beer.

My previous experience is definitely better. Is it because I hadn't waited long enough before opening the bottle? Or is it because I wasn't drinking it in Belgium??!!

This Belgian Tripel is an exceptional beer. It has a slightly turbid appearance and a smooth, full mouthfeel. The taste is also full with a very strong caramel aftertaste that strikes the palate and lingers on the tongue, increasing in time. This is the BEST beer I have had in a long time.

New review from a 75cl bottle

A: pale blonde colour, descent head, not a lot of carbonation.

S: orange, malts, hint of banana, apricot and hops

T: banana and peach , alcohol is there, hint of hops and malts

M: too thin, slightly undercarbonated, too alcoholic

O: pretty average tripel, the thing that bothers me most is the alcohol, not really looking forward to drinking the bottle.

6-1-2009 review

Appearance; Excactly what you expect from a tripel. Maybe a bit pale. (4)

Smell: Nothing spectacular, very difficult to extract a specific smell, kind of plain. (3.5)

Taste: A disappointment. Can't really place the taste, a bit like the smell. The aftertaste flavour is something irony, metallic. As it is a new bottle, I can hardly imagine this is coming from the cap. (3)

Mouthfeel: Fo me it could use a bit more carbonation. Because of the weak taste, the alcohol is quite noticeable. (2.5)

Drinkability: Quite an easy drink. nothing complex; lacks the stronger flavours you'd expect from a tripel, because of this the alcohol comes through, and quite strongly so. (4)

If they gave me one I would drink it, but i wouldn't give money for it, as there are so many better beers in this style easily available to me.
