Honored as one of the World's best Weizenbock beers.
The Weizenbock from the Ladenburger brewery, which exists since 1789 and is now managed by Karl Friedrich Ladenburger in the 8th generation, is a beer that has received multiple awards from the World Beer Cup! It is a classic, top-fermented, golden yellow strong beer, which is fermented traditionally in the bottle. The foam is particularly fine-pored, very stable and creamy. In appearance, one finds a strong golden-yellow color with beautiful, natural haziness. The smell is fruity, with a trace of banana flavor. In the first sip, this beer specialty is balanced, full-bodied, sparkling and rounded - the malt character is balanced and aromatic. In the aftertaste, it is very mild and makes you want another sip, especially so on cold winter days.

day 18 of the advent calendar. poured from a 500mL can into a new glarus 30th anniversary mug. pours a foggy burnt orange with almost three fingers of off-white foam. the nose resembles that of a dunkel weisse with wheat, banana and light clove. taste however has a little more malt sweetness to it throwing in pumpernickel bread and more clove and spice to it than the nose has. this one is malty and sturdy in stature. very tasty. been enjoying this style every time i try one, although that isn’t as frequent as it’s kind of an odd or rare style it seems. medium-full mouthfeel. i always feel like the wheat helps in that category although that might not be true. just seems a lot of wheat beers has a solid mouthfeel. this was damn tasty.

Look is a deep, but opaque golden color.
Smell is delish. Banana fruitiness over potent yeast fragrance.
Taste is malty banana with some funkiness to round it out. Aftertaste of molasses and bitterness.
Enough carbonation to tickle the tongue. Very boozy mouthfeel.
I like this one and would def buy again.

Brauerei Ladenburger "Ladenburger Weizenbock Hell"
50 cl can coded "EXP 2024/03 10:09 2012MU". Sampled on 11 November 2023
Notes via stream of consciousness: This may be a weizenbock but it looks no different in the glass than a standard weizen. Actually now that I think about it, it's a little more golden and less orange than some examples. The head is a full cap of white foam but I had no trouble pouring it, and looking at the bubbles rising within I'm quite sure that it's got a lower carbonation than a standard weizen. That's to be expected although there are spritzier versions out there. The aroma is quite malty and you can clearly smell the wheat. There's some banana, vanilla, and clove as well. On to the taste then... it's sweet and malty as expected, very bready with the wheat remaining clear. I'm not saying that there's not barley there because there is (in keeping with German brewing traditions it has to be at least 50%), it's just that I don't normally get the wheat flavor so clearly. The banana, vanilla, and clove remain along with some additional fallen apple. It's sweet but somehow balanced with some acidity and a pinch of alcohol showing at the end. It finishes semi-dry with that light tartness and apple rising and then falling to reveal some residual grainy-sweet malt that's reminiscent of wort lingering. I think that there's some oxidation to it, which enhances the perception of maltiness. Over time it could turn papery but it's certainly not there yet. In the mouth it's medium-full, or perhaps even full bodied - I guess it's really on the lower end of full bodied. The carbonation is moderate, and even lower than I thought it would be initially but it still works. I tend to like softer, lower carbonation beers though so perhaps that's influencing me. How strong is this? Ahh, it's 7.4%. I was going to say that the alcohol is fairly well hidden but weizenbocks can get up to around 9% so that makes sense. I don't know exactly why but I really like it. I see it as a sipping kind of beer. The kind of beer that you have later on, perhaps the last one of the night while things are winding down. Also, now that it's warmed a bit I'm getting some of that alcohol in the aroma but it's still mild, indicating a proper fermentation. I wish that the head retention and lacing had been better but I also understand that alcohol does help to kill the head. At the same time with all of that residual sugar it should have been better. In the end I think it's quite good.

From the 16 oz can in a snifter. This very nice weizenbock pours a
lightly cloudy pale amber with a very nice head of white foam that
settles to a fat ring, thick layer, and sports some very nice lacing.
Nose of soft wheat, clove, banana, and sweet honey malts. Flavors
are excellent with banana, clove, wheat, honey, and subtle white
grape notes. Mouth feel is medium, light soft carbonation, smooth,
and finishing lightly dry.
Overall, this one is a winner! Wish we could get it more often in the
States!
Cheers

500ml can, tulip, expires January 2024.
Clear darker gold with a small white head.
Bubblegum, a spike of alcohol as it warms, banana.
Banana and clove with a little more sharpness from spice than it’s Hefe little brothers would have. Alcohol bitterness, a little green grape, and a little alcohol.
Medium body and carbonation.
I vote yeast in and high carbonation.

Poured into a weizen glass. Pours a lightly hazy, medium golden amber with a fine, three finger white head with great retention and solid lacing. Aroma of wheat, clove, green grape and banana. Flavor is wheat, clove, apple, banana; lightly tart wheat and clove finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. A fine, classic tasting weizenbock. I had forgotten that that this style is paler than the standard bocks and was surprised at first at the pour, then remembered it's a hell. I found this surprisingly close in flavor to a hefeweizen, with less of the dark fruit notes of a bock and the clove and banana malt as a dominant flavor. It does have a somewhat heavier malt body in the feel. Beautiful, long lasting fine bubble head. A very refreshing, flavorful and balanced wheat beer. One of the best of the German advent beer pack. This one tasted less like a contract brewed ale than the others; good quality.

APPEARANCE: Semi-cloudy golden amber, with a nice off-white head and almost no lace.
NOSE: Spicy wheat and yeast, hefeweizen-style clove and banana vibes. Nice.
TASTE: Rich. Superlative mix of weizen malt flavor, wheat, bubblegum, banana, clove, and some fruitiness in a solid, hefty body and an almost boozy dry finish. Quite good.
