The nose on the beer is quite caramely, but has a nice sweetness that reminds me of a red ale. I really like the nose on this. The beer is a deep amber with a good finger head on it. Lots of carbonation and decent retention. The flavour is rather complex, which is a big surprise to me; it has the crisp lager bite followed preceded by a rich roasty flavour. There are other flavours hanging around, like a sweet caramel and a slight bitterness. Since it's a bit watery on the mouthfeel, the flavour seems really toned down. When drinking the beer, you're led to think there is going to be an epic closure, but it turns out it's a flop because of the mouthfeel. The beer is drinkable because it's watery, but I'm not so sure I'd buy another one of these.
All in all the beer is solid, but the thinness on the mouthfeel really ruins the beer. Maybe bump the beer up to 6% and it'll be better?
