Good looking beer pours clear and gold with a huge frothy three finger high head. The retention is excellent. The head is a bit sticky and leaves minimal foam on the glass.

Husky and grainy, sweet bread with a bit of syrup sweetness. Fruity esters of red berry and plum. Hops are rather light, a bit of pine, citrus and medicinal herbs.

Raw and husky grain with white bread and caramel sweetness, some cream and buttery muddling in there. Hops are also light pine and red berries and under ripe citrus. Finishes with yeast and watery grains, a bit of medicinal herbs and citrus.

Medium bodied with average carbonation. Easy drinking but watery in flavor, raw grainy to finish, Alcohol is muted.

Not the greatest IPA, malts need to be tightened up and the hops are equivalent to a pale ale at best. Still not overly off putting just...lacking.

I first had Flying Dog out in Colorado.Liked it then.Like it now....I quit drinkin' it for awhile...Started back into it a couple years ago about the time that i was still drinking Guinness almost exclusively...flying dog got me back in the beer world again and not remaining stagnant with my tastes...but now that the beer culture has exploded,i see they are not the best (still one of the best, though) & i will remain loyal because they are consistent & this beer in particular is one main reason for this...i also dig their innovation/artwork and good deeds w/beer like the "pearl necklace"A Great beer for a great charity...Of course,Ralph Steadman & the Hunter S.Thompson connection will always be a BIG gonzo factor here as well...cheers!

Appearance: clear orange/golden /off white head that dissipates a little on the quick side.

Smell: citrusy/earthy hops aroma .

Taste: Hops no doubt. Fruity taste,Grasy flavors, big citrus. Excellent.

Mouthfeel: Medium to light . Carbonation high though.

Drinkability: One of the best I've had in this style. Original taste/drinkability is Flying dog!
I still do think this is one of the better IPA's out there.

Bottle poured into 3/4 glass

Cream/off white coloured head.

Smell - hoppy but sweet and floral.

Taste - Brown sugar, honey to start, very hoppy and slightly bitter to finish.

Mouthfeel is okay, starts smooth but finishes a little cottoney

An IPA that can be enjoyed in summer time and winter hot or cold. Outstanding regardless of the mouthfeel, it happens sometimes! Can't tell it's around 7% which can be dangerous!

Smell is very floral. Like two hearted. I bet they use centinnial hops. Big nice head

Orange color. Nice carbonation

The taste is too bitter for me. Like a two hearted ale that has too many IBUs for this non hop head. IPAs are definitely growing on me, and I enjoy this one, but it's too bitter

Amber color with a thick off-white head with medium retention and leaving laces.
Relatively light aroma of bread malt, subdue lemon citrusy.
Flavor is much more interesting. Notes of tea bags, orange peel, pine, lime, grapefruit, one notch more intense American yeast, some grass and flowers and a bit of papaya. Very dry aftertaste with a long lasting bitterness.
Light to medium body with perfect carbonation of tiny bubbles. I would never guess this is 7.1% abv.
Interesting that this IPA increases its bitterness throughout the degustation as opposed to otherwise. Felt to me as underrated, probably this is fresher than average and people get very picky in the US with so many good IPAs.

Pours a slightly ruby color, clear, with about two fingers of white head that stay there for a while.
The aroma is very pleasant although not too strong. It's hoppy and citrusy.
The taste is straigtforward bittery, but not unpleasantly strong.
A very drinkable IPA whihc offers lots of taste and runs very smooth.

This ale pours a hazy golden amber color with a thick white head that gives way to a slight lacing. The nose is very subtle with some hops and a lot of malt. A little vanilla and toffee peer through on the aroma. The body is light, almost too light. The flavor is malty with a little hoppy bitterness on the tail. Seems more like an apa than an American ipa. Solid beer but nothing worth seeking out.

Appearance: as always, a well put together beer by the dudes over at FDB. Nice bottling. Beer pours a slight amber/red color. Not a lot of head. Lacing lasts throughout.

Smell: I laughed pretty hard because my wife said it smells like Budweiser. Ha. But it smells pretty stout. Very common IPA smell. Can't complain. It's very aromatic to me

Taste: a very spot on IPA. Really nice taste. Not too bitter. If you've never had an IPA this might be the one to get you into them

Mouthfeel: pretty pleasing to the taste buds and palates. I'm a big IPA fan so nothing new or extraordinary.

Overall: very enjoyable. FDB never let's me down

BBD 073/14. Clear medium amber pour with a hint of red. Well formed head with lasting lacing. Nice nose of citrus over a light background of pine and biscuit or caramel malt. Medium bodied with a nice smooth mouthfeel - not quite slick. Well carbonated. The flavor profile is quite complex and very nice. It begins with a brief biscuit that progresses to slightly sweet, then effervesces into a tart grapefruit against a light pine. In the middle the bitterness takes the forefront against a lingering tartness. It finishes with a bit of sweetness over a tart bitterness that lingers. Not the usual IPA, but very nice.

Poured into a pint glass.

Appearance: Slightly opaque golden yellow. White head that goes to a lacing throughout the beer.

Smell: A lot of citrus with some hops.

Taste: Not as hoopy as most IPAs. Citrus is there. Malty.

Mouthfeel: Pretty crisp, mild carbonation.

Overall: A decent IPA. Definitely not the best, but noteworthy. Wouldn't go out of my way for one, but I would grab one if available.

A: Poured a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. Snake Dog pours a nice amber color with a one finger head that dissipates quickly but leaves a nice lacing on the glass.

S: Not a whole lot going on here, but not unpleasant either. I sensed some hops and a hint of caramel, but I shouldn't have to shove my nose this far into a beer to really get the scent.

T: Matches the smell. There are some hops up front, then an odd (for an IPA) sweetness that didn't really resonate with me. The pleasant dry finish helps this beer stay on the positive side.

M: I found the carbonation to be a bit strong with this beer, but I do like the dryness that dominates the finish.

O: I may be overly critical when it comes to IPAs; however, along with stouts, IPAs are my favorite kind of beer, and there are so many good ones that my expectations are high. With that being said, I found this effort from Flying Dog to be somewhat lacking, especially in the flavor department. All in all, not a bad beer, particularly for those who may be shy with stronger brews.

Flying Dog is close to home, so it is interesting to try the local brewery's.

First time for Snake Dog IPA, not to bad light on the hoppy side. Sort of like the grapefruit presence. I would drink it again maybe on tap since Flying Dog is close to home one of my stops will feature it.
I like the label Flying Dog uses, sometimes this will sell a beer if you are undecided in your selection.

Poured into a pint glass from a can.

Oringally gave a rating on 13-11-03 of 3.0.

A middle of the road IPA. Maybe this is an IPA variation some like, but not me. One that is local to me, but one I will not drink again. Too heavy to be a nice beer refreshing beer on a hot summers day. 3.0

A – Pours a clear golden with a two-finger off-white moosey head. Good head retention. Sediment in the can, which I poured into the glass accidently. Lots of sticky lacing. This beers only redeaming quality. 4.25

S – Hoppy resins and slight floral. Some pilsner hop aroma as well. 3.25

T – Big malty backbone, bready with caramel and some slight sweetness, even some raisins. Not as bitter as the nose might lead you to believe. 3.0

MF – Medium bodied with a medium dry finish. A nice bitterness in the finish as well that dissipates quickly. Almost chewy with such a big malt backbone, which unfortunately lasts on the palate. 3.00

12. oz. bottle poured aggressively into a 500 mL Unibroue tulip. No legible bottling date, just a random brewery code revealing nothing on the label.

A: Aggressive pour into an oversized vessel reveals a hazy golden beer with 2 fingers of head which stick around after the beer settles.

S: Unimpressive. Despite aggressive swirling and getting ones' nose right into the glass, Hop aroma is lackluster. Slight hints of earthy/citrusy hops when agitated. A faint tinge of musky/caramel-ly malt.

T: Much the same as the nose. Initial perception is slightly bittered malt. Finish is hoppier but is still muddled and hard to place. Starting to wonder if the cryptic date code actually translates to "We bottled this beer 6 months ago."

M: Carbonation is fine. Lingering bitterness in the mouth finishes with appropriate carbonation. Can't fault the mouthfeel on this review..

O: Could be great fresh. But I feel like the sample I'm reviewing has been left to it's own, improperly handled devices. Which is a shame, since I feel Flying Dog typically has its shit together =/

12 oz. bottle, with coded bottled on date 316A13 printed on the label. Damn you Flying Dog for not making it easier on me. It's been a long time coming since I last drank this beer, so I thought it was time to revisit it.

Poured into a Lagunitas mason jar.

A - Pours a nice burnt sienna orange colored body with a bit of a haze, but still lighter in color and more clear than one would expect from a 7.10% abv beer. Aggressive pour conjures three to four big billowy fluffy off-white creaminess. Looks pretty damn nice.

S - Smell is pretty light on the hops, but they are in there. Light grapefruit and lemon zest, and some crisp biscuit malt. Not a powerful aroma, but hits it's mark.

T - Taste follows the nose: crisp biscuit malt, some coppery metallics, and lots of bitter grapefruit hops. Very clean malt bill. A bit herbal and grassy, with a mild peppery spice on the finish.

M - Feel ends bitter and resinous from the grapefruit hops, with some mild peppery spice lingering behind. Medium-bodied with good carbonation.

Overall, a very drinkable beer at 7.10% abv; an all around clean, pleasant drinking experience. Definitely one of Flying Dog's more memorable beers from their regular line-up. I would have this again.

Pours a slightly hazy orange bordering on amber. Some visible carbonation. Big frothy white head with some sticky lacing

Smells of sweet grapefruit juice as well as grapefruit rind. Some caramel and bready malt. Sweet tropical fruit - notably pineapple, possibly mango. Overall juicy

Taste falls a bit flat. Sweet bready malt. Spicy pepper. Citrus pith. Grassy. A touch of salt and a slightly metallic aftertaste

Feels somewhat thin yet sticky and resinous

Overall not a terribly impressive IPA. Has a lot of elements of better IPAs but they don't really mesh here. Lingering saltiness kinda ruins it for me. I've had worse but I wouldn't get this again

This is a fairly mediocre IPA to me.

Deep gold, it has a medium white head steadily shrinking to thin foamy top, then ring, a few weak wisps of lace.

Aroma is grapefruit rind, disposable diaper hint, cat pee hint, underlying hint of sweet bread.

Taste is a sharp, peppery bitterness up front, but not too strong, but it then lingers with light raisiny sweetness. It's a bit boozy and alcoholic and not complex at all but quite simple. That said, full is good, and has a nice well-rounded quality.

Pours from the bottle slightly cloudy gold. Aroma of rather faint pine, a bit of grassiness to this. Flavor follows with light caramel malts behind what seem to be bland bittering hops. Light to medium mouthfeel, slightly dry, and not as juicy as I like my IPAs. Pretty standard for the style, nothing wrong with it, but certainly not exciting.

Pretty cool Flying Dog offers this in a can, an awesome looking can at that. Poured into Westbrook Brewing goblet, very impressive looking brew with a dark gold almost orange color to it. About a finger and a half of head from a fairly aggressive pour. Big hop smell instantly followed by a somewhat citrus aroma, grapefruit or mango maybe? Smells great. Very similar to the smell was the taste with big hops upfront with somewhat of a mild citrus flavor, wish there was a little more there honestly. Mouthfeel is average, somewhat thin I guess. Overall a good quality IPA, one of my favorites but also not the best I've had. I consistently keep this brew in the fridge just because it's sessionable, high quality, easy to find and because I love Maryland.

12 ounce bottle into a tankard.

A--Copper/amber, with a nice, frothy, rocky head that hangs around for quite a while and leaves some lacing. Looks like an IPA that's darker and richer than normal.

S--Some citrus, some flowers. There's both prominent hops and underlying malts going on.

T--Both hops and malts are clear and upfront. A little biscuit and graininess from the malt and some lemony citrus and floral notes from the hops. Quite good. Not by any means the typical hop-bomb; much more subtly enjoyable.

M--A good amount of carbonation keeps some crispness apparent. Refreshing and quenching. A bit of astringency at the finish.

O--Very good to excellent. I'm a Flying Dog fan, and this isn't their best. It is, however, really good. Quite a good example of what an IPA can be in the hands of quality brewers.

Out of a wine glass

A: Light orange/amber, looks like weak iced tea, medium white head.
S: Citrusy hops, slight malty caramel. Smells pretty solid.
T: Hoppy, grassy, lingering (back of tongue) bitter orange hoppiness.
M: Surprisingly thin given that it is 7.1% & highly hopped. Not overly carbonated.
O: Hops really hung around long after each gulp. Love the hoppiness but not much complexity. High alcohol content hidden well. Taste doesn't quite back up the punch it delivers with the aroma. Good beer, just was hoping for a little more body.
