Fresh on tap at Stub and Herbs. I've always been skeptical to purchase this in stores because I was unsure of their Flying Dog turnover rate. I know this is fresh at Stubs so I jumped at the chance to try it.
Served in a pint glass, it's a hazy reddish amber color, with a sticky off white head. A lively carbonation fuels decent retention and leaves some nice lacing.
The nose starts out big with fresh citrus and floral hop aromas. Excellent! This is exactly what I was looking for. Piney hops lie in waiting in the background, with a nice caramel malt backbone.
The taste takes the citrus and floral notes and replaces them with a solid piney bitterness, with resiny hops dominating. Malt backbone isn't as noticeable in the taste.
Mouthfeel is light to medium, with a crisp carbonation and a decent hop bite. Drinkability is good.
Overall, I think a very underrated IPA. I will gladly have this again, given that it is fresh.
