Pours a clear copper color with an ample white head. Sweet smell of apricots, grapefruit, bubblegum. Loads of carbonation with a medium bodied, smooth mouthfeel. Mostly sweet malt taste with an herbal hop taste here.
Pretty unique flavor for a pale ale, more in the English style.
I'll buy this again.

Pours a deep golden with a two finger head that settles nicely,I pick up some grapfruit in the aroma from the large dose of hops with some nuttiness that lingers as well.Taste is pretty blazee, not much going on here some soapiness and some zesty hop in the aftertaste thats it Iam still tryin to get get more from this beer but nuttin.Man Flying Dog really needs to check themselves there beers are pretty lackluster.

Appearance – Nice, light copper coloring in the body with a decent head that went down slowly and laced the heck out of my glass.

Smell – The citrus hop aroma opened up a little as the beer sat. There’s also a slight yeasty malt scent, but you have to dig for it.

Taste – The hops, orange rind in flavor with a measure of bitterness, came out well at the taste. There seems to be a slight malt balance in there as well, but this is all about the hops. The finish is a thick, orange syrup.

Mouthfeel – The carbonation is light, and the beer itself is thick and chewy, especially for an IPA. The classic dryness of the style is present as well.

Drinkability –It went down very smooth, felt good from beginning to end, and left me wanting another.

Comments - I thought this was well done. Clearly, I favored this more than most of the other BAs, but to each his own. However, when reviewing this beer, I would suggest letting it open up a little in a wide-mouthed glass. This one is packed in there pretty tight.

Update – I was the high ball review over a year ago so thought I should revisit this fella’ with a 2004 vintage. I massaged the ratings a bit but overall I still stand by my recommendation. This is a terrific and fresh (new) IPA.

Pours golden-amber in color with a fairly thin, white head that wisps away into nothing pretty quickly. Very modest lacing left along the glass, not much to speak of. Handfuls of hops on the nose - mostly the floral type; roses, leafy, slight citrus notes. I'm also getting heavy white pepper in the aroma. First sip leads to pungent hop oils and deep resin, very oily tasting with more of that leafy-peppery combination from the nose. Slightly woody in character with charred wood notes here and there. Bitterness engulfs the palate pretty well; the beer is yeasty and hearty with some dark earth tones in the very, very back, playing a role in trying to balance out the hops. Aftertaste leaves the mouth slightly bitter and a bit hot and spicy - that white pepper lingers longer than anything. Medium-thick body, high carbonation.

This IPA wasn't bad, but it's not something I'd be likely to revisit. Very pepper-like in both aroma and taste, pungent hops aren't balanced as well as one would hope. Good try, but there is so much better out there.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a pint glass.

A: Pours crystal clear golden amber with a dense white head of about 1/4" that stays with the brew for the whole experience. Good lacing.

S: Mix of citrus and flowery hops is most prominent with some underlying pale malt. Light whiffs of alcohol can also be detected.

T&M: Sharp hops accentuate a mostly dry malt flavor with a medium weight on the tongue. There's a bit of a slick disposition with this and there was a clear alcohol presence in the linger. The initial portion of the finish was rather bitter with hops, but enjoyably so. Carbonation is relatively light and well matched for the most part.

D: I always find detectable levels of alcohol on the palate slightly annoying and the closer to the bottom I got, the more pronounced it was. Loved the hops! Great malts! Could use less of the phenolic taste.

This beer poured a very light amber color with a thin pillowy white head that left slight lace down the glass. The smell was very strong on oranges with a very slight hop scent comming through as well. The taste was quite dry with a touch of hop flavor, but other than that there was not much else to taste other than a slight hint of orange. The mouthfeel was a little too carbonated for my taste and could have been toned down quite a bit. This beer had potential it seems, but it is just unbalanced and not as flavorful as it could have been.

Pours an orange honey color with hints of red. Two fingers of fluffy orange-white head that leave a sticky ring as the head dissipates. Really nice lacing down the glass.

Pineapple. I swear I smell pineapple. Also some bready notes and vague sourness underneath the sweet fruit.

I think I have the same issue with this as I do with the Flying Dog DIPA: it goes straight from sweet to bitter. The smell promises some of those nice citric flavors, but they never surface; it's just a dose of medium-bodied sugar that fades into a mild-to-moderate hop bitterness. Sort of a drying astringency at the end that isn't particularly pleasant. A bit of a disappointment.

I remember enjoying this on tap once, but I wouldn't buy this again. After checking the bottle, the stamp says 19807FX. Not entirely sure, but I'm guessing August 19, 2007? If so freshness shouldn't be an issue. Just not a great beer.

One of the local stores has started carrying Flying Dog. I'd sampled some at the ABF, and thought it worth a try. This was a cloudy orange color with a small head. Very floral (?roses) aroma. On tasting, initially some hoppy bitterness, then some bread. It becomes more smooth as it warms. I liked this beer, will buy it again.

At first, this looks like it's going to be good. Healthy looking patchy white creamy head atop a solid amber coloured beer. Aroma was light, with faint grain and a touch of floral citrus hop smell. Get to the taste, and I'm sort of lost. The body is almost too weak, thin. A rawness hints to its level of hopping. There's little malt sweetness (dextrin, faint buttery maple), but there's a dominant hodgepodge of hop flavours that can't decide what it is; very herbal, hoppy and slightly bitter with a watery lemon flavour. No balance to this brew at all. The hops really try, but its bark is worse than its bite. Finish is leafy in feel with an odd floral/herbal leftover.

Great label, not so great beer. I expected something a bit more agressive, proving that looks are deceiving.

First off I just have to say I just freakin love this brewery's entire lineup. Big fan of the brew and like I say, gotta love an entertaining label!
Poured a nice golden color with a head that went away quite quickly. Scents of pineapple and piney hops. Good hoppy flavors. Very smooth and nicely drinkable. Bitterness is fairly low. Great session beer!

Look: Golden amber with a thick head and good lacing.

Smell: Earthy citrus aroma with a slight maltyness.

Taste: Starts with a sweetness that is cut by the carbonation. the bitterness begins as the carbonation dissipates. The bitterness is earthy and lingers.

Mouth: smooth carbonation not harsh

Drink: Its malty start and earthy bitterness makes this beer more enjoyable the flavor from the finish and the start mix quite well.
