Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a pint glass.
Appearance: Pours a dark golden amber and presents with almost no head. What head there is forms at the edge along the glass and does leave a little Belgian lace, so that at the end it appears you drank a more substantial beer than you did.
Smell: Average for the IPA style, as in hoppy. It is difficult to get any other smells out though. This leads to the assumption this will be a strong hoppy beer.
Taste: While the taste is good and hoppy, it is not as powerful as the aroma would lead you to believe. The bitterness of this beer is a bit subdued compared to other IPA's, but the other flavors of citrus (grapefruit?), pine, malt, and an earthy tone that I can't quite describe all come together to make this a pretty tasty brew. As is typical, it leaves with a pronounced maltiness that fades into the hoppy bitterness that defines the style.
Mouthfeel: Mouthfeel is good for the style, slightly more carbonated than others, but not "fizzy". The bitterness provides some bite, but again this is something sought out in the IPA style.
Drinkability: Slightly above average. I appreciate this beer, but compared to other selections it isn't my first choice. It comes across a bit restrained. Definitely a great beer to pick up when you see it, but not one to go out of your way for.
