Road Dog poured a deep amber color, almost brown but translucent. I expected darker from a beer that touts itself as a porter. There was no head form the bottle so none to dissipate. The smell was also lack luster; it had very few if any malt undertones with a bitter hint of hops dominating the aroma. The taste did make up for the disappointment at the poor. While not an earth shattering beer it holds its own. The front of the beer hits with a slight alcohol hint and a malty taste like a Scottish Ale and finished with little aftertaste. The mouthfeel was nice and robust, not watery. This beer is quite drinkable and leaves no lingering tastes. It sits light in the stomach for a darker beer. Unfortunately, this beer did not pack the flavor I expected from a label that says "Scottish Porter", but it is a good beer in its own right.
