Pours a bright gold color with lots of visible carbonation. Crystal clear with a 2 finger head of bright white color. Nose is subtle, soft, and perfumey with hints of grain and biscuit.

Crisp, on the the heartier side of being light in body with a slightly creamy mouthfeel. Grainy in flavor with good balance. Other than that not much going on. Not a great ale in anyway and kind of bland to me but I have converted many a bud drinker to the craft side by introducing them to this and working them up towards the better stuff.

Other than that though this beer serves no purpose to me.

The Gonzo porter was great so I decided to try this offering from Flying Dog...

Appearance: Miller Lite.

Smell: Grass.

Taste: Sour. Fizzy pee. Maybe a little hop on the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: I pretty much want to stop feeling it with my mouth.

Drinkability: Ugh, I still have four of these left.

Seriously disappointing. I can't believe they make Gonzo and also make this tripe. No redeeming value, especially at $9 for six.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a 0.5L Krušovice branded pilsner glass.

Appearance: Pale yellow and translucent. Looks like a macro lager. The head is thin and fizzy and dissipates quickly leaving little to no lacing.

Smell: Has the typical grainy and beery smell of a macro. A little bit of floral hop sweetness is there, but not much.

Taste: This is one of the first beers that I can say has almost no taste at all. I honestly can't find any words to describe a taste that isn't there.

Mouthfeel: Thin, watery, and overcarbonated.

Drinkability: Go elsewhere. This beer is a major dissappointment.

look: 2 | smell: 1.5 | taste: 1.5 | feel: 1.5 | overall: 1.5

Appearance- Light gold color and had no head retention

Smell- Has very little malt and hop aromas, but has no complexity or really much going on.

Taste- Light, clean, and refreshing

Mouthfeel- Thin and very carbonated

Overall this is a very simple Kolsch and not something I would seek out again. I love almost everything from Flying Dog but this is not for me.

look: 1.5 | smell: 1.5 | taste: 2 | feel: 2 | overall: 1.5

Appearance: This one pours a very pale golden color almost clear. With a light frothy head that thins out quick.

Aromas: Very light hop notes but thats about it not too many aromas.

Taste: This stuff does not have very much at all. Very light bodied and a little bit crisp but thats it.

Notes: This one is not too tasty the style is not too bad but the beer itself needs work. Perhaps some more flavor would not be a bad thing. My advice to all those who try it and or intend to try it stay away very far away.

I generally like flying dog's beer and wile I did like the appearance (a slightly golden urine color) I think this beer may actually be brewed with bits and pieces of real tire. It my be that i am not familiar with the Kolsch style. However i would not recommend this beer at all.

A: Golden yellow with thin pure white 1 finger head. Leaves minimal lacing and medium carbonation.

S: Grainy and bready smells. Maybe a tinge of hop smell.

T: Watery and lacking everywhere. Some malts come through and the beer is relatively smooth. Moderate to high carbonation.

Overall not impressed with this beer. No real flavor, and watery. I tend to stray to the extremes of the beer spectrum and this does not fall into that category. Good beer Flying Dog!!

The aptly named tire bite tastes a bit like grass and dirt. Unfortunately, the best thing about the beer is the label. It's unfortunate that Ralph Steadman didn't put his talents to work elsewhere on high quality beers. This golden ale seems a bit too pale and watery. It formed little head. The aromas were grassy as were the simple, thin flavors. I can't believe that it claims to be a Kolsch. This beer is clearly designed to have broad appeal but offers nothing of interest for a beer drinker looking to enjoy a kolsch ale.

Appearance - A pale urine yellow with a small head that vanishes quickly. A small bit of lacing.

Smell - A very weak diacetyl and stomach acid odor, most unpleasant.

Taste - A little metallic, but mostly a rice lager flavor with a musky sour/bitter aftertaste. As it warms, it develops a strong stomach acid taste. A craft brew that should be drank at 33 degrees. Yuck.

Mouthfeel - Thick and foamy. Better than the other aspects of this beer.

Drinkability - Although I could drink another. I'll pass. Finishing this one is challenging enough. Not the worst beer ever. But I'll take almost anything else over it.

(From Notes)

12 oz bottle to glass tumbler.

To be drunk with shellfish or white sausage ideally. Otherwise, don't bother. Light, yellow body with fizzy, clearish head. Very light, herbal hops with a slight bitterness and Busch Light-esque smell (translation - really bad). The beer dissipates on the tongue. Dry and pretty tasteless. Sour, unattributable finish.

A poor tribute to the Kolsch.

A: Urine, straw, unsurprisingly... golden. Weak head, clear, no lacing (bubbles just drip down the side of glass)

S: Like a sweet white wine, a riesling maybe, and strong honey

T: Watery, lager-y, tastes like a [bad] wheat beer, watered down honey, no bitterness whatsoever

M: Very light body (think Bud Light, but sweet). Very little carbonation.

D: About as drinkable and sessionable as a flat, overly sweet Bud Light.

Pours a very light straw-yellow color with a thin, foamy head lasting about ten seconds. Very, very clear and not very beer-like. This is beer, right?

Light and nutty malt presence on the nose. The yeast is represented with a peanut aroma. Very faint hop presence. This is beer, right?

Slight and barely noticeable malt flavor loaded with cheap cereal malt tastes. Some dry hop tones but nothing special. The only slightly redeeming quality is a tasty yeast presence providing some nutty, vanilla flavors. It doesn't taste bad. It just doesn't really taste like anything. I'm really stretching to describe noticeable flavors.

Mouthfeel is clean and crisp. This brew is just way too watered down.

Drinkability is probably good. One could drink about six of these and still not taste much of anything that resembles beer. Very disappointing.

12oz brown bottle with some ridiculous artwork and no freshness date. Pours a dull yellow/gold similar to a macro with little head. Smells weakly of bland grain with a similarity to adjuncts, some diacetyl smell in the middle, and a touch of mild floral hops. Taste is watery, weak and bland grains, and a little bit of unpleasant sourness from the hops. Aftertaste is sour butter diluted in water. Hardly drinkable because the aftertaste is unpleasant. Hardly any flavor, very watery, and a few unpleasant notes that stand out, though everything is bland and weak.

Presentation: 12 oz brown bottle

Appearance: A dull gold not unlike a Redbull or Gingerale. Small creamy head with very little lacing.

Smell: Light and sweet with a faint hoppiness and bit of apple and/or lemon.

Taste & Mouthfeel: Lacking in both malts and hops. A small amount of bitterness lingers a bit, but mostly watery with a dry, stale finish.

Notes: Got this in a mix pack and I'm glad I did. I won't be stuck with a six pack of these. Although drinkable, not my first choice for a summer ale.

Appearance is very light in color, and the head is very thin almost non-existant without a lace.

I can smell only lager, barely.

Taste is weak and leaves the palate very fast, but tastes like a lager with some weird after tastes.

Mouthfeel is water, just feels like water.

I don't think I'll ever have anther one of these.

Poured bright yellow clear, with a fizzy white head.

Smell had a light grainyness to it, very light.

Taste pretty much like any US produced macro lager. A very light grain flavor, no hops. Boring.

Mouthfeel is very watery.

Just plain boring, and not good.

poured into a perfect pint.

sub par in all catagories.

pours a clear gold, not much head, not much lace, not much to look at.

smells almost like a BMC, just way to faint in smell and taste. I was actually a little sad that there were 2 of these in the mix pack, means i had to drink another.

It's sad because with all of their beers being light and bubbly, i expected the kolsch to fit in the style, but they managed to make it even weaker. sad

Presentation: 12oz brown bottle. Has some chaotic artsy fartsy work on the label, but no clear freshness date.

Appearance: Clear, bright golden-yellow with a thin creamy white lace -- just enough retention to keep me interested.

Smell: Pungent, a bit apple-cidery, slightly floral. Musty.

Taste: Smooth, creamy, light and refreshing on the palate. Malt presence is mild, not sweet at all, and lends more to the body of the beer. Hops are herbally, with a very watery lemon flavour. Thin fruitiness, hints of apple skin. Goes crisp, grainy and then dry ... straight into the finish, which thins out and contains a background bready flavour.

Notes: Not too fond of this beer. In fact, it's a close to poor excuse for a Kölsch, mediocre at best. "Why?" comes to mind as I look at all of the other selections on the beer shelves ... and that's not good at all.

Unremarkable. About the same as your typical big brand macro.

Clear gold colour, short white head that quickly disappears. Grainy nose, a hint of malt and hops. Thin bodied, bitter uninteresting finish.Undistinguished profile.

Overall just plain dull. Neat label graphics, though.

Okay, on to the next.

Appearance is clear golden with a quickly disappearing white head that leaves no lacing.
Smell is very faint, almost undetectable.
Taste is like dilute ricewater, starch with a bit of malt. Not many hops, not much balance. Even considering that the style is not intended to have massive malt or massive hops, the flavor of this one is so subtle that I think I missed it entirely. Slight malty finish.
Mouthfeel is very light and watery.
Drain pour.

A -- A faint golden brew that pours into a two finger head that rapidly disappears into a very thin skim, leaving a layer of lace.

S -- Alcohol and watery graininess, with an odd musty presence.

T -- Grainy with a faint hop or malt presence. Almost undetectable flavors of bread and citrus.

M -- Thin and watery, lacking in body or linger.

D -- As a kolsch, not very good. As a golden ale, not bad but mediocre. I wouldn't bother unless it's a choice between this and a macro lager.

A - Pours hazy golden with a white head that dissipates very quickly.

S - Lemony grass, grainy malt, some buttery vegetal.

T - Faint hops and lemon up front, tangy fruity yeast, muted grainy malt, finishes with a mild bitterness and an unpleasant aftertaste.

M - Heavy side of medium, low carbonation.

This taste old and there's something in there that's just not right. Buy a single before getting a whole six pack of this.
