Bottle from Harvest Market,
Pours a slightly hazy pale straw color with a huge frothy rocky white head that persists forever. Aromas of spicy wheat, and clove with hints of light fruit. The flavor follows the aroma quite well. Sweet honey like maltiness with a spicy edge to it. Clove with a hint of yeastiness and a touch of light fruit round out the flavor. Medium body with a moderate to high level of carbonation and a sweet slick mouthfeel. Nice brew, I enjoyed it, but it is missing something that the examples from Germany exude.

A - buttery yellowish in color, carbonation was decent, with a quickly dying head Slightly cloudy. Seems to be lacking in just about all of the above.

S - I get zero banana or lemon. I smell bread with a hint of spice. Sort of dull.

T - The most important part of the brew is unfortunately the worst. The taste reminds me of a flat Bud or Miller Lite. After a few, and adding a lemon, I am getting more and more notes I did not get from the first. All in all, this one needs something. It is not bad, it just needs something to take it over the top.

M - Mouth feel was good for a Hefe. Plenty of summertime carbonation. Clean.

O - It is decent. I love Hefeweizen and was expecting to capture so much more. Is it my new Summer brew, hell no. Flying Dog, spice up the recipe...and watch it fly off the shelves.

A - Deep golden in color and a little hazy. Off-white one finger head fades quickly.

S - Some banana, mostly cloves. Wheaty sweetness. Quite pleasant.

T - A lot more banana along with some other fruity esters. I get like a tart apple flavor. Finishes fairly dry with little to no after taste.

M - In and out, does not want to linger. Fairly high carbonation tickles the tongue.

O - I would say a fairly average hefe. It's good, very sessionable but not anything to write home about.

Long time no see; let's see how it goes under evaluation.
Hazy yellow orange color with short retention.
Aroma of vanilla, banana, pear, yeast, cloves, biscuit malt and wheat.
Refreshing and spiced flavor with notes of oranges, pepper, green apples, coriander, pears, lemon and nutmeg. Dry and a bit acid aftertaste.
Light to medium body with medium carbonation with tiny bubbles.
Interesting this felt to me more like a Witbier rather than a Hefeweizen. Regardless of classification, it is a decent and pleasant brew.

Pours a clear golden with a head that rapidly diminishes to nothing. Nose of clove against a light banana background. Light body and well carbonated. Nice clean taste of clove and hints of banana against a lemon zest punch. Crisp finish with a touch of clove and lemon lingering. This would be a great choice after mowing the grass in the heat.

12 oz. bottle into a craft pint glass.

A- Pale golden in color, with the classic Hefe haze. White head retains poorly.

S- Clove and a lot of banana. Pretty fragrant.

T- Slight banana flavor, quite a bit of a watery/grain blandness as well.

M- Very smooth, yet bubbly. Really not much of a finish. Pretty watery.

O- Aroma in this one is nice, but the flavor is lacking.

12 oz. bottle, with no apparent bottled on date present, just a code printed on the label 007A14. Another beer from Flying Dog's regular line-up that I've yet to try. Not my favorite style of beer, and my expectations are about average.

Poured into a Shock Top hefeweizen glass.

A - Pours a light golden yellow-orange colored body with about a finger of white head that thins down to a foam rather quickly. Lots of carbonation rushing up the sides of the glass. No lacing. Fairly unimpressive to look at.

S - Smell is pretty boring also. Dusty malt, must, mineral water, indistinct yeast-derived fruitiness. Clove spice, white pepper, & bananas become more pronounced as the beer sits.

T - Taste follows the nose: grainy malt, hint of lemongrass, mild yeast funk, clove spice, and bananas. At times, I am almost getting a sort of cream soda flavor from this beer.

M - Feel is fairly wet and smooth, but it finishes bone dry. Light-bodied with coarse carbonation.

Overall, a fairly uninteresting beer all around from Flying Dog, possibly their least inspired beer that I've had from them yet. Don't get me wrong, it isn't horrible or offensive by any means, just very generic & boring. Glad to have tried it, but I wouldn't want it again.

Enjoyed out of a 12 oz brown bottle with the distinctive Steadman artwork on the label, but no dating that I can find. Poured into a classic weizen glass.

Appearance - Hum. This is a pretty lackluster looking beer. One of my favorite things about having a hefeweizen is the fact that is usually a gorgeous beer. Like liquid sunshine. In-Heat is a murky browinsh orange, with some faint golden highlights that are dulled by the haze. It takes a strong pour to muster just under a finger of bone white head, and that dissipates to a thin ring of foam rather quickly. Lacing is almost nonexistent.

Smell - A little more to style, with notes of banana and clove, as well as a faint bit of peppery spiciness. There is also a sweetness that reminds me of bubblegum and clover. The wheat grain element is mostly undetectable.

Taste - Here, the grain kicks in a bit more, emerging from an initial phenolic sweetness. Like banana bread, but faded. The finish has some elements of lemon, but it's a bit more sour than zesty.

Mouthfeel - Somehow manages to be thin and watery, but not crisp. Like slimy water. Weird, I know, but it's just not terribly pleasant or refreshing, two things I look for from this style.

Overall, there are at least a dozen better hefeweizens out there, and in my case, most of them are easier to get my hands on. Glad to have tried this one, since there aren't a ton of American-made hefeweizens, but I won't be returning to drink it again.

Brilliantly clear, golden in the color. Big coarse white head, disperses pretty quickly.

Sweet, almost cidery aroma. A bit of clove. Aroma does not scream hefeweizen.

Cidery flavor, a bit nondescript. No picking up much banana/clove. Dries out and is a bit bitter in the finish. Another beer possibly not at the peak of freshness from the "single bottle" shelf at my local bottle shop. Has the bland flavor and weird bitterness of an oxidized beer, but lacks the drying on the tongue.

MF - highly carbonated, fairly light in body. Carbonation is somewhat distracting - harsh on the tongue.

Not a tasty beer, but say that with the caveat that this might not be brewery fresh.

I've tried as many hefewiezens in the U. S. as I can find, they are rare (at least in my area). I make In-Heat Wheat to be very, very, good; authentic, with a good clean spicy ("cloves" overtones could be stronger, then would be perfect) Bavarian taste.

I've had much worse, and only a few better in Germany.

Beer is cloudy and and a slightly bright, deep yellow in color. Pours a moderate sized pure white head with poor retention. Leaves no lacing. Smell is very heavy in banana, there is also wheat and a bit of clove. Also a more earthy note kind of like corn husk maybe, doesn't have the traditional hefe aroma, but I like it.

Taste is similar to the nose, very banana heavy, with good amounts of wheat and breadiness. Again the clove is less than expected, and the musky/earthy smell is present in the taste too. Has a bit of green apple taste in the finish. Has high carbonation, expected for a hefe, and maybe a bit more body than average, which goes with the breadiness.

The beer comes in a light golden hazy yellow.

The aroma has some banana and spice and yeasty breadiness.

The flavor follows, but without the banana and clove flavor you want. It's subtle and tastes watered down.

It's an extremely light body and is watery.

12 oz bottle into a pint glass.

A: Pours a murky yellow color. The head starts off strong, with two fingers of white shading, but fades fairly quick. Only tiny amounts of lacing are left on the glass.

S: This is more forward in banana than clove as far as the aroma goes. There's also an earthy tone I'm not too sure about; it's almost dusty to me. Pretty inconsistent.

T: There's more going on in the flavor. A touch of banana opens the flavor profile up...the finish, however, I'm not a fan of. Seemingly heavy in both earthiness and general wheat, it strikes me as being 'dirty' in flavor. Not just dirty as in muddled flavor (which it does feature), but as in drinking actual soil. Meh.

M: The body is too heavy here. Combined with the finishing astringency (not dryness), this is rendered...not impossible to drink, but not as chuggable as it could be.

O: This was one of the first craft beers I've ever had, and I didn't like it that much. Fast forward 2 years, and I still don't like it that much. So much for evolving palates, huh? One of Flying Dog's lesser brews.

This is a different type of Hefe. I have not done any real research on the beer but it is crystal clear (filtered) unlike other Hefes and smooth as ice. I like the flavor, banana tones, cloves, more flavor than I would have expected from a filtered Hefe. Picked up a few six packs after the first so I would have them available.

Poured on-tap and served in a shaker pint, the beer is a light, slightly hazed, yellow-gold coloring with a frothy, filmy, bright white head. Aromas of banana and subtle spicing, like a fresh baked banana bread. Cinnamon and nutmeg and clove blend, but remain light. Flavors of banana bread on a biscuity backbone, with lemon zest, clove, and a toasty overlay. Light and effervescent in mouth, with a clean finish that has a slight banana linger.

Pours a light straw color with a good amount of citrus and sweet malt on the nose. 2 fingers of foam that did not last, slight lacing. The scent of apples and pineapples. It had a nice hops character and good potential but it finishes like fruit punch. The body is weak and the soda like carbonation was the lion’s share of it. How disappointing.

I love this beer. It has a hint of clove and banana but it's not overpowering.

I do wish it weren't as heavy. It's not really that heavy, but the sweetness would pair better if it were a bit lighter. I love this beer in the summer.

Overall a great beer. I can't drink it all the time, but I'm pretty excited when I find it in a bar.

Appearance: Cloudy orange. Initially a two finger white head that becomes a small murky layer of tiny bubbles. Lots of tiny bubbles. Slightly darker than typical hefeweizens. Some lacing but it retreats back into the beer

Aroma: Yeasty banana breadiness. Cloves. Some spiciness. What you'd expect but nothing groundbreaking

Taste: Tastes a little tart. Super crisp wheat. Coriander and cloves. Banana and bready yeasts on the back palate that lingers. Again, nothing new here. Does taste truer to form than most American hefeweizens so bonus points there

Mouthfeel: Crisp. Smooth despite the abundance of carbonation. A tad watery. Very quaffable

Overall: One of the better American hefe's I've tried. Very sessionable for any occasion. Especially good for warmer weather. Granted this has nothing on true German hefeweizens but I would get this again

Served into a hefeweizen glass:

A- pale goldenrod color, that is translucent. Half a finger worth of foam, and no lacing.

S- Clove, banana, and wheat. Also has a yeasty smell as well.

T- Earthy pear like taste, that leads to some clove, and wheat. Ends with some banana and almost tastes like pumpkin spice at the end.

M- Light body and high carbonation.

O- A great session beer. Nothing too complex and out of the ordinary, but still decent.

Not normally a huge fan of hefeweizens, but with the transition from winter to spring, wanted to try a new one so picked up a six pack of this at a reasonable $7.99/6-pk. Pours a yellow-orange with a slight foamy head that dissipates pretty quickly, not leaving a lot of lacing on the glass. Smell is really good - coriander, orange peel, clove. Carbonation is JUST about perfect -- maybe a little too biting, but that is really nitpicking as this a very solid, tasty beer.

T: Moderate sweetness and light bitterness. Lots of banana up front. Clove is in there too.

Bought it on a whim, as I've always had pretty good luck with Flying Dog. Pours an even, golden color. Nice head that vanishes pretty quickly. It feels like heavy carbonation, but for some reason I don't mind it. The label warned me to expect banana and clove, and they weren't lying. I'm not normally a banana fan, but this was a pleasant surprise. The smell and taste of both was present. It was very refreshing, and I easily put away a 6-pack pretty quickly with a friend.

I poured this bottle into a fluted glass. I always like the way that the Flying Dog bottles look. The original art is impressive for each new bottle.

On the pour I got a decent amount of foam that went away very quickly. The beer is straw colored.

The nose had quite a bit of belgian horse blanket to it. I enjoy the banana esthers.

The flavor is pretty good. I like the bubblegum in the background. The horse blanket continued in the body.

This is a pretty good example of a hefeweizen. I need to pick up more of this next year.

Pours a translucent yellow color that strikes me as a tad thin for a hefeweizen. It's topped by a mammoth, rocky white head spawned by atypically large carbonation bubbles. You'd be hard-pressed to get me to describe a beer's head as being too big, but this really is pushing it. You almost have to work your way down to the actual beer beneath the foam.

The aroma smells mildly of banana and clove--typical hefeweizen fare, but less elegant than the elites of the style. The flavor matches the aroma. Once you fight your way through the froth and the biting carbonation, you find a pedestrian hefe flavor that is passable, but hardly great. Banana and clove are there, but a bit muted compared to my expectation. Some hop bitterness in the finish is slightly more present than usual as well. The most noteworthy element is a nice apple peel flavor that hides behind the banana. This is an acceptable attempt at the style, but a little too watered down and overcarbonated for my liking.
