Poured from 12 oz bottle into a tulip.
Appearance: utter black with a thick dark-tan head of mega-persistent foam. Beautiful.
Smell: a little alcohol and a fair amount of roasted malt/coffee. This bodes well.
Taste: quite estery at the beginning, quickly developing into a nice, rich roasted grain flavor. Plenty of coffee and notes of chocolate. Throughout the experience is the heady presence of alcohol; it's not off-putting, but the booze definitely makes its presence known.
Mouthfeel: body is definitely on the thick side, although it's not syrupy or cloying. Not overly carbonated but the texture is quite silky nonetheless.
Drinkability: at this ABV, dangerous. I could definitely see downing a few of these at the pub if it were served on tap around here.

Poured from a bottle into a Gulden Draak snifter.
A: Jet black. Pours a creamy tan brown head that lasts the entire glass. Lacing throughout as well.
S: Not giving off any extreme scents. Picking up the malt with a little bit of the chocolate and sweet caramel. Reminiscent of an Oyster Stout. Also picking up some fresh citrusy hops.
T: Very hop forward with a wave of initial bitterness. Mellows out to a perfect balance of maltiness and chocolate. At the end you're left with a smokey malty finish that makes you want more.
M: About as thick as a Porter can get without encroaching into Stout territory. I usually don't like the thinness of Porters but this one has enough flavor to back it up.
O: Very surprised with this beer, perfectly balanced. Will purchase many, many more times.
