If I were you, I'd consider logging off social media tonight. After all, Double Dog nights can get unpredictable...and the internet is forever. With an ABV over 12%, this wild, untamed Double IPA is seductively full-bodied, with a deep red color and subdued malty sweetness. Dried-fruit aromatics make it an ideal companion to hard cheeses that you'll forget you ate in the morning. As world famous artist Ralph Steadman put it so succinctly, Double Dog is, "For that night. That other goddamn night."

A: golden to amber. not too clear but not hazy

S: heavy hops and pine, malt under tones

T: malty sweetness then switch to resinous hops. booze. high alcohol presence, hint of citrus peels.

F: full bodied, thick almost creamy like a barley wine.

O: a solid offering but nothing to go crazy for.

I put the overall a little higher because this beer is more than the sum of its parts. It’s hoppy, it’s malty, it’s crisp, it’s heavy, it drinks like a session beer but pounds you in the head like the 12% it is, all while being $18 ish a six pack. It’s more balanced than a SN Bigfoot, IMO. I’ll drink these when I’m in the mood for a big gulp of cold beer after a long hard day of grunt work mood, like today.

Let's get 1 thing straight- this is a Barleywine NOT an IPA double. imperial or otherwise.
Marketing is the only possible reason to inappropriately use those 3 letters on this beer can. A 19 oz. can for a little over $5 btw which ain't bad. Brewed in Philadelphia PA according to the label which seems odd.... contract or new brewery location?
Looks good - clear medium amber color, tall, dense head of sticky off-white foam - very little drape or spatter of lace but otherwise a pretty glass and a persistent cap of froth. \Aroma is ok - all the right caramel sweetness and earthy herbal hop notes but soft and way too weak for a barley wine much less a 2X IPA.
Flavor is also weak but very tasty - rich malt is balanced up front with pine and green grass hop flavors but strangely watered down from what I'd expect in so big a beer.
Ok so it DRINKS more like a double IPA than a BW and extra style points by hiding the abv so well but it also makes me think - why bother? I don't need that extra 3-4% to enjoy it more. In fact, I may even have 2 of these at 8%.
Body is just barely full with a rough almost harsh back end bitterness while the finish is smoldering but still not hot or boozy.
Possibly the most easy drinking 12% beer I've ever had. Still deciding if that's a good thing or not.

The previous comment that this beer is somewhere between a 90 Minute and a 120 Minute is dead accurate.

I like it a lot.

Pours a cider-look shade of light brown, effervescent.
Lot going on on the tongue
Tastes and feels like a 12% for sure, but the unique taste makes it easy to sip.

Slowly enjoying this delicious IPA from an ice-cold pilsner glass. Beer is from a 12oz bottle. Smooth soft taste with a very pleasant finish. I will definitely buy this beer again!!

I must rate this by both taste and style. It drinks more like an American Barleywine than any IPA, a style that does not suit my tastes at all. Both chock full of hops and at the same time sickly malt. I drank 1 of the 6 and swapped the rest with a local BA.

Well chilled 12 ounce bottle, straight up in my hotel room, wrapped in a bottle koosh.
Nondescript aroma; sour orange and pine.
Taste bomb! Generously hopped, fine malt backbone, yeast balances it out. Nicely bitter finish with warmth lingering.
Heavy as a 12% ABV WCDIPA should be, with a medium carbonation glide.
Overall, this is the Big Nasty DIPA I been looking for. It’ll be easy to knock this 6 pack down over 2 evenings!
No distro to South Florida.,. guess I’ll have to import a few in my luggage.,.

The wife who wants to cut me off at 2 beers makes this a 4.25. The immediate improvement in all apects of beer enjoyment from beer #1 to beer #2 makes this a 4.25. The fact that a six pack lasts twice as long makes this a 4.25. Keep a six handy for when the wife is on high alert.
I'm updating this review several months later. I've experimented with double IPA's and many varieties of high octane beers. Price disregarded, I keep on coming back to these. They cannot be beat. It says on the bottom of the six pack "The beer you are about to drink may, in fact, change your life." I'm not sure about that, but my opinion after 58 years of going at it hard, is why drink anything else?
