When I entered the bar there were a few guys going ga-ga over this particular beer, so instead of starting with one of the other lighter Flying Dog offerings at the promo, I started with this guy. Maybe my expectations were way too high, but I just wasn't that impressed. The pour, into an American pint glass, was hazy amber/orange, with a decent head that didn't last very long. The aroma was dare I say a little jagged; sharp earthiness against sharp sweetness. I found the flavors to collide rather complement themselves in my mouth, and furthermore left me with a slightly sour finish. Not what I would expect from a good double ipa. The body certainly was malty full with very soft carbonation, but not that sessionable, given the aftertaste.

Pours a clear copper with a finger of head that lingered for a decent amount of time. The nose had both grapefruit and hop notes. The flavor profile is relatively well balanced between malts and hops. The big flaw of this offering is the finish. The alcohol bite is far too obtrusive and unfortunately dampens the whole tasting experience.
