12oz. bottle poured into a tulip glass.
A: Pours a slightly foggy almost burnt orange-like color with a large two finger puffy cream colored head. The head quickly deflates, leaving some mild, pretty lacing down the glass. A constant barrage of tiny-to-medium sized bubbles make their way up from the bottom to maintain a decent sized creamy cap that retains until the last few sips.
S: Lots of tangy, fresh grapefruit notes upfront with a pretty strong wave of herbal and flowery hops following suit. A little bit of a yeasty character underneath that's slightly hard to detect, but still very much present. A nice spicy zing towards the end from the alcohol seeping through.
T: The taste on this one pretty much follows suit with the nose; there's not a whole lot of surprises here, though there are a few things my sniffer didn't pick up. The first wave of flavor is abundantly citric and fresh. Grapefruit upfront mixed delicately with some lemon. Those flowery hops come through adding some nice floral notes as well as some added bitterness that you expect from the style. The finish is semi-sweet, but the grapefruit and lemon make their way back, as well as a dash of banana and spicy alcohol. There's nothing phenomenal going on here, but the flavors are full and immensely satisfying.
M: Upon first sip, this one doesn't feel like a 8.3% brew. A nice creamy texture mixed with a controlled, mild carbonation make this one a smooth drinker. It's not until halfway through the glass that you notice the alcohol tingling your palette and warming your face. Definitely one of the easier-drinking bigger brews.
O: While I'd be lying if I called this one world-class, I'd also being doing a great injustice if I didn't give it the praise it deserves. This is a fairly common brew (at least in my area) that delivers everything I look for: good nose, full-flavor, and exceptional flavor. While I'd be wary to session with this, I'll definitely be revisiting it in the near future and I'll definitely be recommending this to others... With caution, of course. Because when you trifle with a Raging Bitch, you're bound to get bit.
