To me this has a dark aggressive Amerian IPA nose with some burnt brown sugar which invades the nostrils. Orangy amber in colour. Decent one inch reasonably dense foamy head which leaves lots of trailing traces all over the glass.
To taste a penetrating twisted bitter dryness phenolic with some juices and spice. The backbone just struggles to support the beer's weight which means it doesn't really add much to the mix. Probably overwelmed by the potency of this.
But Belgian? My arse. About as Belgian as a plate of Buffalo wings with blue cheese sauce and celery sticks though this beer really would be a perfect match for the best of Tonawanda cuisine.
An imposter of style but still quite a lusty offering which I just can't ignore. Could happily drink another six, maybe seven in succession.
