Hmm, Flying Dog is 20 years old? Who knew? Grabbed a second six-pack of these on my travels since it didn't make it here to SC and I enjoyed the first one a good bit.
What we got here, briefly, is a sharp, stabby grapefruit bomb with an indulgent soft, creamy mouthfeel and well masked ABV at 8.3%. RB screams outta the gate with prominent untamed and wild white grapefruit bitter notes, and more hesitant apricot and reserved caramel malt flavors rolled up with a subtle (weakish) Belgian yeast. Pithy and yet not dry, there is a white oak / woody component that intrigues. The tight head sports some nice staying power and lace and as it warms, so do I.
Bottom line: this Bitch is in your face, but closer examination reveals it's got depth, too.
Raging Bitch is quite an enjoyable beer, better than usual from Flying Dog, and once again shows (like Gonzo) that these guys can really put out a solid drink when they want to. I'd love it if they made this a seasonal. One of the better Belgian IPAs I've encountered, and worth the trip to track it down.
