12oz brown bottle with a bottle code.

LOOK: Tall head, golden orange haze

SMELL: Orange peel, kumquats, peppery, rose water, grapenuts, green tea, nutty, dragonfruit, alcohol

TASTE: Smooth, bitter, tea, herbal, peppercorn, tropical fruit, warming alcohol, pineapple rind, resin, faint pine, blood oranges, bitter semi-dry finish

A solid example of a DIPA, very unique hops and they definitely work on their own. Personally hope they brew more with this hops / bigger crop next time around.

12oz bottle $2.59. Nice orange color, great clarity, lots of lacing, looks very appealing. Aroma is dead malts and just a boring hop character. The flavor is more old malts, deadness, not a nice beer. It tastes oxidized, smells like dog food, maybe the only thing they took from Denver was notes of the Purina factory. Pitiful as far as IPA's go. Maybe they moved because the standards are lower in Maryland and they couldn't keep up I'm CO.

Poured into a tulip. Amber and gold with a frothy white head, great retention. Smells sweet and cirtusy with alcohol on the nose. Soft nip of alcohol on the front, mellowing in to thick malt backbone, great citusy and fruity hop finish. Very smooth, hides the alcohol well. Great beer.

I know I will be a bit higher than other reviewers on this beer. I bought a six pack of this while I had a few other beers on hand so I was able to drink it only when I saw fit. Others mention that the alcohol is too noticeable in this beer, but I felt that it went well with the sort of thin yet bubbly mouthfeel of the beer.
I found myself drinking this beer with pasta and so happy that I could do that. I usually can't find a good beer for pasta, especially with red sauce, and usually find that wine works better, but there is a subdued quality to this El Dorado hop that is different than the bright and fruity hop you get in a lot of DIPA's nowadays, and I think the alcohol works with this and makes it almost a 'wine of a beer'. Indeed, I found myself sharing 12 oz bottles among two or three people in wine glasses at meals. As for the components, I would say Jason's summary reflects very accurately what I got in the sixer I bought.

12 oz. bottle purchased at Connecticut Ave. Wine and Liquors in NW D.C. in late 1/14, unknown bottling date, poured into my FFF Teku glass and drank while reviewing over an hour.

A - 2/3 - amber- brown coloration, crystal clear on pouring from the bottle with a frothy white head that settles into a subtle glass lacing after several minutes; large alcohol legs; carbonation reagutates on the swirl

S: 9/12 - some really unique fruit aromas - pear, green apple, stone fruit and watermelon; little detectable malt character on the nose

T: 14/20 - on the anterior tongue, there's a moderate bitterness that pops the taste buds for the El Dorado to do their thing - more tropical fruit on the taste than on the nose but present remain stone fruit and jolly rancher flavors; there's a biscuity malt on the back of the tongue with some toffee sweetness; finishes moderately dry, which invites subsequent sips; little detectable alcohol at 10% ABV

M: 4/5 - full body, mild hop notes coating the tongue, alcohol fullness

O: 8/10 - overall a nice showcase of El Dorado, which has a unique flavor profile with lots of hanging Autumn and stone fruit instead of more typical citrus and/or tropical flavors; I happen to prefer the latter, so I think that's why I am not head-over-heels in love with this one and think that El Dorado might perform better in combination than isolation for me; regardless, this is a well-crafted DIPA for anyone interested in expanding their palate to taste an atypical and rare hop varietal

TOTAL - 37/50
