12oz brown bottle with no freshness date

LOOK: Clear straw yellow hue, great frothing, stickage all the way down

SMELL: Spicy, herbal, medicinal, walnut skin, dried grass, slightly musty

TASTE: Medium bodied, a bit chewy, grassy, hoppy, resin, bready, very herbal, faint bandaid, pear juice, long hoppy drying finish

Sort of one of those American Saisons, good use of hops here though not to the point of being unbalanced. Wish it was a little bit more dry and crisp. Scores high for my in originality for a fall release ... sometimes a simple twist can make the difference.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass

Appearance – The beer pours a hazed, lighter golden color with tons of carbonation forming a massive white foamy head. The huge head makes fitting the brew in a pint glass impossible at first. The head very slowly fades, eventually making this a two/ three pour beer to make it fit in a standard 16 oz pint glass. Upon fading the head leaves a good level of bubbly lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma is yeasty and a little bit grainy with a hint of caramel sweetness. Along with these smells is a little bit of a grassy smell as well as some citrus and spice with a bit of a grape like smell.

Taste – The taste begins with a wheat and grainy flavor with a light lemon and orange flavor. A yeasty flavor is present upfront as well, with the combination of flavors having a rather smooth taste. As the taste advances, flavors of hay, some funkiness and tartness as well as a decent amount of a grassy flavor come to the tongue. These flavors add a new dimension to the flavor profile but also take away from the smoothness of the beer, leaving a drier Saison flavor to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the average side in terms of thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is on the rather high side (as would have been anticipated from the huge head). Both were rather appropriate for the Saison style and made for a rather easy drinking brew.

Overall – A decent Saison, but nothing all that extraordinary. Rather easy drinking and at least worth a try.

A-Crisp light golden appearance--about the same as Bud.

S-Much hoppier, far less fruity than other beers in this category.

T-Loved the hops--if I had to classify this on my own I would call it a light pale ale. None of the sour fruity tastes I usually get from a farmhouse type ale.

M-Nothing objectionable here--smooth, consistent, and imminently drinkable.

O-Noticeably better than OK. I enjoyed the second one as much as the first, and would have had a third but my wife was ready to go!
