Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Snifter.

Appearance: Near black with decent tan head and light lacing.

Smell: Cold espresso, molasses, cholcolate and dark fruit.

Taste: Coffee and molasses form the backbone, with notes of dark fruit and chocolate. The bitterness is fairly low and generally not much bite at the finish. Fairly subtle taste overall for the style but very tasty.

Feel: Moderaly low carbonation. Smooth and creamy, but the body is lighter than expected.

Overall: Nice, affordable Coffee Imperial Stout. Certainly on the easier drinking side of things.

A- I'm not sure really why this category matters because all beers look different but as i pored it out it was pitch black, typical imperial stout. There was a good head on it as well. pretty appealing to the eyes

S- Not getting that much coffee but I am getting a very malty, bannanay smell too it. I do like the smell but I'm not getting those dried figs and plums that every reviewer tends to put down for imperial stout. Sometimes I wonder if they've actually had an actual dried fig, not a fig newton, or a dried plum.

tasted- Definitely getting that coffee bitterness taste typical of a stout but not so much any other characters of coffee. At the back end I'm getting that bannanay taste that i got in the aroma.

M-It's not particularly thick but it does have some body to it.

0-Pretty good beer. definitely would get this again. Not the best beer in the world, but far from the worst. I would like to get more of a coffee taste in it though.

12 ounce bottle from a sixer. "Vintage 11BB" (?) on the front label.

Pours basic black, under a darker tan head, that stays, leaves ample bits of fine lacing.

Nose is full milk chocolate, vanilla and some roasted malts.

Flavorful and enjoyable stout. Chocolate, lite cafe au lait, some more vanilla and a hint of bourbon late...all mixing and meshing together in this super smooth on the tongue and easy drinking brew.

Well done and well worth a try.

Gotta love the Ralph Steadman label art and HST quote.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Surly Darkness chalice. Vintage 13.

Appearance: Pours pitch black with a moderate amount of bubbles. About one finger of deep tan head that quickly fades into a thin creamy layer. Leaves a decent amount of lacing.

Smell: A rich, roasty, and sweet dark malt forward aroma with big hints of coffee, chocolate, and caramel. Upfront dark roasted barley malts with big hints of dark roast coffee beans, dark chocolate, toast, biscuit, caramel, grains, yeast, smoke, cream, and slight vanilla. Sweet hints of molasses. Dark fruit hints of raisin, cherry, and fig. Hops are very light. A very good imperial coffee stout aroma.

Taste: Like the aroma, a very roasty, rich, and nicely sweet dark malt driven taste with big notes of coffee, chocolate, and caramel. Dark roasted barley malts with big upfront notes of dark roast coffee beans, bitter dark chocolate, toasted bread, caramel, biscuit, yeast, grains, smoke, and some sweet notes of cream and vanilla. Also some sweet notes of molasses. Dark fruit undertones with notes of cherry, fig, and raisin. A really good coffee stout taste.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Creamy, slick, and slightly syrupy. Finish is smooth with a well hidden alcohol presence.

Overall: A really good take on an imperial coffee stout. Very good dark coffee and chocolate flavors with a nice creamy body.

A 355ml bottle with a BB of Nov 2013. Picked up ages ago from Trembling Madness in York and stored in my garage. I reckon Ralph Steadman might have had a few of these before drawing the label...

Poured into a Duvel tulip. Bottle conditioned (chunky). A very dark brown that appears ultra-black in the glass. Yields a small head of brown foam that disappears rapidly. Aroma of rich roasted malt with notes of coffee, cocoa, burnt grain, molasses, brown sugar, faint dried fruit, a hint of vanilla and earthy yeast. Slightly sweet, with a warming whiff of booze in the background.

Tastes of intense roasted malt and coffee, followed by a powerful bitter finish. Notes of burnt grain, coffee, cocoa, molasses, brown sugar, dried fruit, subtle vanilla and earthy yeast. Rather sweet, with more than a touch of booze in the background. A zealous bitterness upon swallowing, though tempered somewhat by the sweetness. Mouthfeel is smooth, thick and tingly, with light carbonation and good body. Quite astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of coffee, roasted malt, molasses and yeast.

Impressive - an avalanche of coffee and roasted malt overwhelms the palate. Looks nice, while the aroma and flavour are all about the coffee. Tastes like it was brewed five minutes ago. Good body; could be slightly creamier but let's not split hairs. A fantastic imperial stout with plenty of character - if you like your beers big and stuffed with coffee then don't pass this up.

Pitch black body while listening to some nice soul music on Spotify, while Kujo is tearing out guts WTF? Flying Dog is getting dark. This pours black with a mocha tan head forming thick with speckled sporadic lacing. Aroma bitter coffee notes with fruity tones as well, a very nice beer big chocolate roasted malts dark beer with a creamy dark action brewing. Flavor is all coffee highlights a bit of tree bark, fruit/herbal tones, and acidic coffee (black coffee) sweet artisan coffee, but damn delicious I like these Black dog roasters a match made in heaven. The label says this is vintage 12CC, okay I'll keep an eye on that as this beer gets drained. Like a strong coffee/dark chocolate infused ice brewed coffee, damn strong slightly astringent in the best possible way with fruity highlights trailing it out. Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied dry roasted coffee finish very enjoyable beer being produced out there and I'm happy to say I'm converted excellent brewery with beer to match. Overall God bless America and this beer right here, I'm ready to get spiritual it might as well be about the new 12 ounce Kujo beer I can get at my local...I can't picture crazy West Virginians in Morgantown, WV downing this in number there may be a revolution.

A-On the outside, all Flying Dog bottles offer a unique design by the hand of artist Ralph Steadman and this particular one (given its wild yet creative flare) is a great setup to the beer. Once poured, it has a thick dark brown almost black body and a nice light brown head that leaves rings around the glass with each sip.

S-a nice roasty coffee boquet with a hint of vanilla. Very inviting!

T-great coffee taste with a slight metallic tone to it and a hint of cream on the aftertaste. It has some nice complexities to it.

M-definitely notice the roasty feel which warms the mouth and leaves you craving for another sip. Perfect for warming the pallate on a chilly day.

O-Its hard not to like this beer. Not an overly thick stout, but still a very good attempt (exceeding my expectations) and well worth the purchase.
