Pours black with a one and a half finger creamy dark mocha head that fades slowly into thin ring with moderate lacing.

Aroma of coffee, dark chocolate, slight caramel and some alcohol.

Taste of sweet chocolate, licorice, vanilla, dark roasted coffee, some smoke and a slight alcohol warming. As this beer warms you get more coffee and alcohol taste.

Mouth Feel is medium body, light carbonation, smooth with a slight tingle and a nice coffee after taste.

Overall a very nice stout that starts a little sweet, but ends with a nice coffee and dark roasted taste. I enjoyed this beer more as it came to room temperature.

A: black ale in a pint; fingers of dark foam head slimmed but persisted throughout

S: of dark earthy, roasted malts, cocoa, coffee, and coffee grinds

T: cocoa and coffee again do battle - suggestions of earth and wet char - brighter spikes of perhaps something like cinnamon or spice.

M: a little on the thin side for an Imperial stout, least as far as I like 'em - smooth and mellow; bittersweet; slight coat; chalky cocoa finish

O: a very nice coffee stout - nothing too big, but delivers on the flavors you'd expect. Fans take note. A nice choice for any BA to try.

355ml bottle bought from Lighthouse Wines, Jordanstown

Poured jet black - nothing gets through even when held up to the light. Dark dirty brown head poured thick and foamy then faded to nice thickish covering... very faint lacing...

Aroma - Big blast of strong espresso coffee and toasted malts, lots of sweet milk and dark chocolate, oats, molasses, treacle, light blackcurrent/blackberry notes, toasted nuts, cocoa, leathery, woody, some faint vanilla traces, light spicy hops, burnt sugar...

Taste - Lots of sweet creamy chocolate and rich dark coffee to the fore, roasted malts, faint smokey notes, some licorice, some peppery hops, lots of toasted nutty notes, molasses sweetness..

Feel - Very smooth and creamy with just a little sharpness after... full bodied... very drinkable for 8.9%

Overall - An outstanding brew and up with the best of the Americans impy stouts..

Bottle purchased at AJ's Beer Warehouse in Henrietta, NY.

Pours a very dark black into my Sierra Nevada tulip. A half inch of head, with little disappearing dots of lacing down the glass.

The aromas include roasted malts, roasted coffee beans, chocolate, and vanilla.

The taste is pretty similar. Nice, complex coffee flavor in this one- when colder, the coffee flavor comes across as bitter, and a bit nutty, as the beer warms up, it becomes slightly sweeter, a bit tart or twangy, and creamier, while still remaining nutty. There's both dark and milk chocolate flavors here as well, plus a bit of toffee and vanilla.

Medium body, creamy smooth mouthfeel, lingering coffee and roasty bitterness on the palate after each sip.

A good one from Flying Dog, great interesting coffee flavor.

The beer comes in a dark black color.

The aroma has caramel, lightly roasted malt, some coffee, blueberries?, smokiness.

The flavor follows of licorice throughout, hints of vanilla and coffee, a good amount of bitter chocolate, some meatiness and smoked flavors. Umami compliments those. There's a chalky after taste.

There are good notes, but also some really strange notes for a coffee stout.
