Poured out of bottle at room temperature into pint glass. Third time having this and so half way through the sixpack I found the time to actually write a review.

Look: Appears midnight black, completely solid allowing no light to penetrate through, small 1/2" head dissapates quickly into small light blond film.

Smell: Bitter Chocolate notes, wet grain, and sourdough breadiness, there is also a strong fruitiness that sort of underlies all these aromas as well. Overall the aroma is pretty subdued.

Taste: Intense bitterness from the combined flavors of the coffee and the roasted malt, finishes with a slight creamy note - sort of milky but doesnt taste like any lactose was added. Some earthy hops appear but they are mostly overwhelmed. Finish has a dark fruity twang - tasting somewhat like chocolate covered raisins. It leaves you with a mild alcohol burn and your mouth fighting between a strong sugary sweetness and strong coffee bitterness. The flavor profile has true depth with mulitple layors of taste shining through. Some beers are simple but taste good others beers are complex but taste muddled and weak. This beer is neither of those: it reaches some layers of complexity (not mindblowingly so) and maintains clairity and quality of taste.

Feel: Although this beer that I am tasting seems to be thinner than I remember it being from prior tastings it still has some depth of body, It feels very round on the toungue and is quick sticky. Leaves somewhat astringently.

Overall: A very nice beer but its not quite a home run. The taste is good but not great and the complexity of flavor is good but not great. If you enjoy coffee beers I'd certainly give it a shot. Its a pretty great value in a six pack, but its not in the same league as some other cofffee beers like Stones IRS w Espresso or FBS.

I had a 1 yr old vintage of this. very good as a quality aged stout. The coffee came through nicely with a very smooth base.
