Got a growler of this as part of our first Junto Society meeting. This growler was about as fresh as it comes!

A - Traditional hazy, deep yellow color. Nice 2 finger white head with good retention. Lacing present.

S - Nice banana bread smell. Lots of Belgian yeast along with some floral notes.

T - Lots of floral yeast...some bread and lots of banana.

M - Meadiun to heavy bodied. Good carbonation bite. Smooth for the higher ABV's.

O - Overall this was a pretty easy drinking beer. The flavors complimented each other well.

From my Junto Society growler: Pours a hazy golden with a one finger white head. Pretty good retention and just a bit of lacing in the glass.
Very aromatic! Lots of floral and banana notes. Wheaty, yeasty and fruity.
Taste is similar to the aroma. Lots of floral and banana notes. Bubblegum. Wheaty and yeasty. A bit on the sweet side but not over the top.
Medium bodied. Nice level of carbonation. Sweet and dry with some hop bitterness showing up in the finish. I also like that the alcohol wasn't overwhelming. I'd say Flying Dog did a pretty good job with the first beer in their new small batch series.

this one goes out to my man Lou

Galaxy Hut

a: served in a standard shaker pint at galaxy hut, the imperial hefe is opaque with yeasty haze, banana yellow in color, sporting an average bone white head

s: big clove and banana from the bready yeasts on a body of wheat and pale malts, enough residual sugar to give more sweetness than the standard style usually permits, grassy hop aromas, sugar cookies, some alcohol, a big and bold hefeweizen nose that imperializes without totally disrespecting

m: medium bodied with yeast slurry and malts, carbonation around moderate

t: heavy wheat malts with a notable sugar presence, some slight notes of caramel or bready pale malt, huge yeasty, estery flavor with lots of banana and clove, lightly hopped to a papery/grassy note, something of a longer finish with warming alcohol

o: simply a hefeweizen on steroids, nice clove and banana from the yeast with a strong malt body producing some alcohols, but nothing too distracting, tasty

On tap at Churchkey. Served in a snifter.

Pours a hazy light golden-yellow color with a nice white head and a thin cap throughout. The nose carries some banana and bubble gum with a moderate amount of clove there as well. Touch of booze. Flavor has a nice yeasty presence and a bit of alcohol. Medium body. Overall, slightly boozy and has some hefeweizen yeast. I really, really don't see the point in making this beer.

First had: on tap at TJ's, Paoli, PA

Part of a Flying Dog takeover, this was listed as a "Brewery rarity," or something along those lines, so I figured I'd indulge. Pretty typical for the style all around. Poured a hazy golden yellow, on the verge of golden brown, with a nice cap of white head that retained and laced well. Aroma of bready yeast, banana esters and light spice, and more of the same in the taste, with a touch of honeysuckle sweetness, and a slightly grassy, bitter finish. Medium mouthfeel, pretty good overall.

On tap at Max's today. I believe this is part of the new, rotating line-up.

The beer pours a slightly hazy, golden amber color with very good head retention and considerable lacing. The nose is classic hefe, showcasing clove, light honey, a hint of banana and noticeasble underlying spice. The flavor profile replicates the nose fairly closely, except the beer is a bit sweeter than expected (though not over the top), with some nice bitterness in the finsih. Mouthfeel is medium bodied to full, and while the alcohol is certainly noticeable, the beer doesn't come across as hot or heavy on the palate. The finish is fairly long, with spice and bitterness at the end.

While I don't think this is going to get me to switch from Schneider any time soon, this was nevertheless a very tasty beer from Flying Dog. Also, I was afraid Flying Dog would be making an "imperial" wheat up in the 9% or 10% range, but at 7.3%, the alcohol isn't too overdone.
