Poured into a tulip glass a clear light to medium golden with a large blooming white head that stuck nicely to the glass leaving multiple rings of lace as it settled slowly into a frothy mass.Alot of tropical fruit and sharp grapefruit hop aromas, really fresh and inviting, slight yeasty phenols underneath the hops.Slightly medicinal and citric hops on the palate but they seem to lose some punch pretty quickly, spiced yeasy phenols play a small role. The flavors lack some depth and complexity but this is a pretty good beer, love the looks and aromas.

From BeerAdvocate magazine Issue #64 (May 2012):

LOOK: Quick to foam, semi-clear golden hue

SMELL: Peppery, herbal, gummy, eucalyptus, lemongrass, chalky, animal feed graininess

TASTE: Slick, semi-smooth, hop bitterness, phenolic, herbal, earthy, slightly dank, grassy, biscuity, orange pith, green peppercorn; dry, grainy finish

The forced viral video marketing for this beer didn't even come close to surpassing the true persona of Flying Dog and its labeling. Aggressive but drinkable; complex but still approachable for most beer geeks, as they'll be riding off the hopping.

Freshie growler fill up from DeCicco's in Ardsley, NY. $799 for the 32 ounce pour. They just got bottles of this new one as well.

Pours hazed, medium yellowy amber, near white head, leaves a thicker film and lovely fine and striated lace.

Light lemon, pepper and tropical fruit in the nose.

Brightly flavorful and complex brew, with zesty citrus, orange and lime. Coriander, ginger, a lime zest also come to mind. Biting hops dry things out quickly. Bitterness quite present, but not overpowering the spicy, floral and citric hop notes. Toss in a soft yeasty Belgian note and the deal is complete.

Love the style and I'm impressed with this new one from Flying Dog.

Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Tulip.

Appearance: Very cloudy yellow with massive, towering white foam, leaving loads of sticky lacing behind. Impressive.

Smell: Very dry and musty, with clove, pepper, orange peel and a general spiciness.

Taste: Musty and earthy with almost a Brett-like character. Bready malts with lots of spiciness (clove, pepper, coriander). Strong citrus, either from orange peel or hops or maybe both. Not really bitter as the IPA name suggested.

Feel: Highly carbonated with a light medium body. Dry and refreshing.

Overall: More like a really spicy (and maybe hoppy) Saison than a Belgian IPA. Regardless, it is tasty brew.

A 355ml bottle with a BB of March 2013. Acquired from Trembling Madness in York. I had this on tap at In de Wildeman a few months back, so I jumped when I saw it on the shelf. Memories of Amsterdam! As always, I love the Ralph Steadman artwork on the label.

Poured into a Delirium chalice. A hazy golden colour with strong carbonation. Yields an enormous head of creamy white foam that lasts for ages; this slowly subsides to a decent surface layer. Aroma of spicy, fruity Belgian yeast with notes of cloves, banana and bubblegum. Hints of citrus hop aroma and sweet malt. A distinctly boozy whiff in the background.

Tastes of fruity Belgian yeast esters with a hoppy character. Notes of cloves, banana, coriander, bubblegum, stewed hops/herbs and faint citrus. Quite dry, with considerable bitterness upon swallowing and a hint of alcohol in the background. Mouthfeel is smooth and full-bodied, with tingly carbonation. Dry and somewhat astringent. Aftertaste of fruity yeast esters and stewed hop bitterness.

Pretty good, and distinctly Belgian in nature. The fruity yeast flavours and aromas dominate it's character. Not much in the way of aromatic hops - the hints of citrus are light and easily overpowered, though stewed hops add a strident bitterness. Ultimately, it comes across as unbalanced and overly yeasty. Worth trying, but not the best Belgian IPA out there.

Pours a brilliant lemonade clouded godlen color with a big white frothing head large bubbles but sturdy carbonation, pour soft the beer is pretty agitated off the bat when you pop the cap you will hear the carbonation release. Aroma, first off lemon/lime notes with hints of tropical fruit dare I say mango/pineapple combo. A bit of funky yeast similar to the same yeast they use in Ragin' Bitch, spicy and a bit funky. Flavor wise this hits with big time bitterness from both hop additions, spicy yeast notes, black pepper qualities and something I can't pin my finger on. The artwork and the beer are pretty crazy I like how the new sixpack holders proudly state that this stuff is being brewed in Frederick, MD something us beergeeks have been in tune with since they left Denver years ago. Serve it a bit cold it masks some of the bitterness that I found kind of offensive in my first couple sips fade a bit. The yeast is bitter, the hops are bitter, and there seems to be citrus pith that is bitter with minimal sweetness masked by the Belgian yeast strain this beer is a bit of a cluster. Mouthfeel is cloyingly dry and bitter with layers of hops, spice, alcohol, citrus peel just downright awful texture starts to make me want to gag...also you have to deal with the high level of carbonation I'm pawning the rest of these beers off on my cousin Joe, who pretty much loves any beer from Flying Dog. Overall I will not revisit or waste my time on such a harsh beer drinking experience. I like Belgians, saisons, IPAs, white ales, but not when they're all blended together.

(Served in a tulip glass)

A- This beer pours a full glass of foam even with a very gentle pour. It pushes above the glass holding its shape like a glacier. Soon a hazy dense yellowish-apricot body develops with a strong carbonation pushing to the surface.

S- This beer has a slightly fruity ester aroma to the yeast character and an interesting widex hint that is not really offensive. There are some green fruity notes that are probably more from hops but could be yeast, that come through lightly in the finish.

T- The peppery fusel alcohol spice leads to a dry green woody hops flavor and some dry peppery yeast phenols that linger after the dry finish. There is a nice hop pungency that lingers after the finish. Some white plastic flavors come through and turn into more of a fusel alcohol flavor as the beer opens and some apricot hop and clove phenolic come through aswell.

M- The medium-light mouthfeel has a tight fizz and not really much alcohol heat.

O- Nice big hot mess of flavors some interesting some a bit odd but none of them are really offensive. Perhaps a bit shocking but pretty tasty all the same.

Bottle poured into a tulip.

A-Cloudy amber gold with two fingers of eggshell white head

S-Smells of citrus, bread, spices and hops

T-Funky, hoppy with notes of spice and citrus

M-Frothy with a light body

O-Another great beer from Flying Dog. It strays from the classic farmhouse taste, but an overall delicious ale
