This one actually beat out Founders 10% ABV Double Trouble.

Appearance: Pours a clear amber with ample lace.

Smell: Grapefruit, pineapple, smoke, and flowers.

Taste: Follows smell with tropical and citrus combining with sweet malt base, not as candied at Founders. Nice long bitter, and refreshing finish. Dont feel the alcohol as much either.

Mouthfeel: Medium to full bodied with good mouth feel, refreshing.

Overall: Strong, must try and one of the best from Flying Dog

I love Citra hops. That being said, this beer fully exemplifies what I expect an India IPA to live up to utilizing them. It is juicy and fresh with notes of lemon, orange, pine, and a slight hint of pepper. All working together in a great harmony! It has a medium body with juicy citrus flavor and a slight herbal notes that keep it tasting fresh.

Poured bottle into New Belgium globe

A-Poured hazy light amber with a one finger white head. Above average lacing.

S-Aroma of citrus fruits, tropical fruits, caramel, aromatic hops.

T-Flavor is creamy caramel malts, strong citrus hops, with a bittersweet finish.

M-Mouthfeel has a medium to full bodied with average carbonation.

O-Overall a great showcase of Citra hops. I think it's FD best IPA yet. Will buy a sixer now

A: medium amber beer, clear; pillar of off-white head will slim but persist

S: juicy fruits and flowers, citrus and rain; flashes of something sweeter and chewier, like caramel

T: lean and tight Citra fruits, motes of orange, lemon, maybe mango - tropical and citric hop action across the malt base; chewier notes of caramel and malt

M: medium-weight, faint coating, crisp and clean for a DIPA; building bitterness

O: great showcase for the Citra - packs a wallop but without any sloppiness - fresh, bright, and crisp

It's been a hell of a journey, hasn't it? With review #1000, I'm not going to be bringing out some whale...rather, I'll just do what I usually do - review a local beer. 12 oz bottle into a goblet.

A: Pours a beautiful amber color. The head is around a finger high, and barely off-white in shade. Both a creamy texture and decent retention (for 10%) is featured, and the stream of carbonation also makes the head look bubbly. A nice ring of lacing is left on the glass.

S: The objective of any single hop IPA is to show of the hop in question, and this shows Citra off nicely. Notes of mango, guava, melon, and pineapple are backed up by a slight Citra stank (think cat pee), but the latter almost disappears completely. As expected for its ABV, sweet malt is fairly prevalent, with a very mild booziness. While I expected more pop given its strength, the hops are showcased well without being drowned out by caramel malts.

T: Better than the nose. Citra fruitiness immediately hits the palate - and yes, it's rather juicy - with a healthy pine bitterness on the backend. Sweet malts are sandwiched between the former and the latter. It's fairly sweet, but the sweetness covers the booze very well. This one is really damn solid: it's bitter in all the right ways, and sweet in all the right ways, plus dat Citra-derived melon flavor.

M: This goes down ridiculously well for the ABV - there isn't an excessively sweet linger on the palate, and the alcohol can only be felt going down (and even then, only slightly). As expected from a big DIPA, drinkability slows down after around half of the serving. Carbonation is a bit low, so it seems slighly syrupy (again, big DIPA, completely expected). Still, it's a 10% beer that goes down more easily than some of the lesser pale ales/IPAs of the world.

O: Fresh IPAs make me so happy. So naturally, this also makes me so happy. If the aroma was more in-your-face, it could even go toe-to-toe with the whales of the world. Still, this is definitely a great DIPA. More, please!
