On-tap at Good Beer, New York, NY

A: The beer is crystal clear golden yellow in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a half finger high light beige head that died down, leaving a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface and a collar around the surface.
S: The smell is a little sweet and spicy with aromas of candi sugars and spicy yeast.
T: Much like the smell, the taste has initial flavors of spices that are followed by candi sugars and a bit of sweetness. No alcohol is noticeable in the taste.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer isn't as sweet compared to some other beers in the style and both looks and tastes like a hybrid between a Dubbel and a Belgian String Pale Ale.

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter. Came plastic sealed with a T-Cork. How odd.

Appearance - Not a pop when pulled. Clear orange body. No head. Flat.

Smell - Pale malt. Yeasty. Some bubble gum.

Taste - Sweet. A little nutty. Bubble-gummy like a weizenbock. Booze.

Mouthfeel - Flat as ever. Medium heavy body and sweet.

Overall - Not exciting. Not even very good. And what the hell is with this cork? Explains why it's flat.

Very sweet up front like bubblegum or cotton candy, Only a tiny bit of Belgian spice in the form of clove and banana. Touch of cool hops, but mostly just sweet. It's a uniquely Belgain sweetness though, and it's enjoyable. Nice palate coating mouthfeel.

Poured into a Flying Dog goblet.

A: Hazy golden blonde color with ok lacing and very little head.

S: Yeasty and funky. Lots of earthiness.

T: Odd taste. Slightly spicy. Bready/biscuity. A bit earthy with a tinge of funk.

M: Smooth but lightly massaging. Not a good mix for the flavors.

O: I always wonder what makes them bottle some of their Brewhouse Rarities over others. The only bottled one that I enjoyed was the St.Eadman one, but I haven't had it out of a bottle. I couldn't finish it, so I boiled some sausages in it.

A: This poured a hazy gold with moderate white head.
S: It smelled like funky horse blanket and earthy copper with some fresh hay.
T: It tasted like funky horse blanket and earthy copper, with some waxy hops and spicy Belgian yeast. It had a spicy and somewhat clean aftertaste.
M: It was watery with moderate carbonation. Ok body.
D: This was an ok Belgian pale ale, but the scent and taste and body left something to be desired. The finish was a little rough too, so it wasn't the easiest to drink. Not terrible but not high quality.

Poured from 750 mL bottle with a gentle hand. Split between a Brewers Art goblet and a Duvel tulip. Sticker on the bottle reads "311 13". Very cool quote by Hunter S. on the label.

A: Cloudy, honey-colored body with 1 finger of white head. Reduces to a thin coat over 2 minutes. Small to moderate lacing. Looks good.

S: Heavily of yeast. Some funk. Lemon. Green apple. Fruit notes are subtle.

T: Hop bitterness up front with lemon/citrus elements on the finish sans any tartness. Intermittently some faint sweetness breaks through. Mild soapy qualities. Light bitterness lingers. Fairly straight forward. Hoppy for the style.

M: Light to moderate carbonation. Decent fullness. Good. Style appropriate.

O: This is serviceable - conveys the style. Yeast is pronounced and it is relatively hop heavy. A bit one-dimensional. It's probably not fair reviewing this immediately following a Hof ten Dormaal barrel-aged. Not bad by any means, but probably will not be revisited.
