High Plains is black with a tall, brown head. Aroma is of a weak roasty charcoal. The flavor has a decent roasted malt profile, but is, like the three other brewpub beers I sampled in Oklahoma, thin and watery. Finish is the highlight where the roast manages to overtake some of the wateriness.

A. Poured a opaque dark brown with a short one finger tan creamy head. No lacing on the glass.
S. Coffee, chocolate, leaves
T. Fell a little short I really liked the smell of thid brew and couldn't wait to sample the taste. The chocolate and coffe nose tempted the taste buds b ut the flavor was light.
M. Good creaminess and nice carbonation
D. A good brew nice and bitter not too sweet. Good balance. Not over filling.

Tried on tap at the brewery 6 Jun 2009. black oily beer with old coffee, cocoa aroma. smooth melty brew. good roasty bitterness from beginning to end. flavors aren't strong and body is light, but pleasant to drink with sweet milky aftertaste. would order again.

Part of a sampler at the brewery - poured a dark brown-black color without much of a head. It was highly highly carbonated and not very aromatic. Taste was of very bitter hops, as were most other beers at this brewery. I'd say it was bitter for a porter. The aftertaste was of roast/smoke which was well-masked by the hops and almost undefinable in the actual taste, but came out a few seconds after later.
