Appearance: Served in a tulip style glass at Lucky Baldwin's Belgian Beer Fest. Beautiful dark brown color with a thin light tan head.
Smell: Fruity, very fruity, but in a good way. Citrusy (orange?) with a good malty nose as well.
Taste: This is what we've all come to see. Very complex and interesting flavor in this beer. There is a good bit of smoky taste to this beer with a some sandy notes. Really, the beer is rich with fatty, bacon slathered malts. There's something silly going on in this beer. It's a good but nearly indescribable smokiness that is reminsicent of my breakfast this morning. It certianly doesn't taste like a Schlenkerla or anything, but it makes me think that this beer has lusted after the Schlenkerla on many a late night. There are other flavors though, despite what my review may lead you to think. The citrus flavors continue to the end along with a unique fruitines that I shall call pomegranate for lack of a better descriptor.
Mouthfeel: It dances in my mouth with smoothness not known to many beers. No funky aftertaste, just a clean, palate molesting goodness.
Drinkability: Sure, I'll have a another. I don't mind if I do. Chop chop love, get me another!

Poured from a 750mL bottle into a Koningshoeven chalice. Best before 10/05/14 (10 May?).
A: Light burnished copper. Light white head with good lacing.
S: Caramel sugar. Apples and pears. Hint of phenol and spice.
T/M: Thinnish and odd. Vanilla. Pear. Can't taste the strength at all. The taste is so brief as to be ephemeral. Aftertaste is lightly sour.
O: It's good, but too strange to great. Maybe I got a strange bottle. Would try again, if not soon.

Poured into a snifter
A: Light brown with a tan one-finger head that dissipates into tiny bubbles. Frothy lacing.
S: Bourbon, nutty, earthy, rum, sugar, caramel. Bring it on.
T: Follows nose. Smooth as hell. Nutty, dark fruits, malts and caramel. Love it. The 10% kicks in with gusto.
M: Medium with frothy carbonation.
O: A great celebration drink. I would say it's my favorite of the 3 des Rocs I've tried, but I love them all equally. Highly recommended for Belgian brew fans.
