Pours black, with half a finger of caramel head

Smell is coffee, black coffee, roasted malt, hints of vanilla, Italian espresso, ya it is just a very coffee forward smelling beer.

Taste is coffee, espresso, chocolate and roasted malt, underlying sweetness that hints at cocoa and vanilla.

Mouthfeel is medium light, average to low carbonation, a tad bit watery but I think this is under 5% so that is fin by me.

I am so glad they finally bottled this! This is by far me favorite beer from my local brewery! Will be enjoying this all winter long. (549 characters)

A solid session coffee stout. It dark and it has good coffee smell to it. The taste has a lot of coffee too. It does have a light feel but great drinkability. I recommend it. (179 characters)

Wow, a second really good coffee stout in one night! USA! USA!

Earlier I had Jingle Java, by Bent River, out of Rock Island, Illinois. I've heard they have an amazing imperial stout festival. The Jingle Java was actually a cut above this one, but the Java Lava is still quite good.

It's not over the top amazing, like the Jingle Java. But This beer has an excellent coffee flavor, with a great creamy mouthfeel, despite the high carbonation. I wonder how that works?

It's actually nowhere near is good as the Jingle Java, but it's a solid brew. (548 characters)

this beer has a great look smell and taste. This beer has a great coffee aroma and taste that lingers through the entire taste. I HAVE had many coffee beers and this Java Lava has local coffee roasters and they know how to brew a great cup of coffee. i would look for this beer if you are in the Wisconsin/Minnesota area. Enjoy. (332 characters)

Pours a dense, tan head with good retention. Nice, soft aroma of coffee and roasted malt; very pleasant. Black. Starts with a HUGE, assertive coffee front. Becomes slightly acidic, which pairs well against the carbonation. Finish is coffee.

This isn't bad. Really, it just tastes like carbonated coffee. The mouthfeel is a bit thin, and the flavor is a bit one-dimensional in that it is coffee, coffee, coffee. Now, this isn't bad, per se. If you like your coffee stouts to be coffee disguised as bier, then this is going to be a delight for you! (548 characters)
