Citrye pours a hazy copper color, with a small, but long lasting, and massively lacing head. Earth and dirt aroma. Flavor is very very earthy, with just a bitter finish. Flat. Overall, not the best. Way to earthy, odd bitterness mixed in.

Thanks to…me? Someone else? No idea where this 22 oz. bottle came from, but it’s here, & I’ve had nothing but lake water for three days. Time for some hops! Split w/my wife.
The pour is light orange, plenty of head with a nose of rye bread, pine, & caramel malt. Enticing.
Citrye has a lot more going on than one would expect. There’s a paddleful of caramel malt up front, & I think “no, not again, this should be an IPA” but then the beer kicks me in the rye; touch of spice, cinnamon, earth-toned khakis. Grainier than my mom’s 8-inch RCA (that’s a TV for the millennials out there) with some pine, moderate bitterness, Simultaneously dry & resinous. Suckable.
Nice, solid, possibly more than the sum of it’s parts. Good beer.

Picked up a 22 oz bomber at the Trig's Cellar 70 in Wausau. There's no bottling stamp or date that I can see. Poured right from the fridge into a nonic pint glass.
L: Pours a crystal-clear amber with about an inch of off-white head that dissipates after a little while, falls to a moderate film and ring, and leaves significant lacing on the glass. There's very sporadic and lazy visible carbonation present.
S: Stone fruit, grapefruit, and pineapple are the most prominent notes in the bouquet. There's some bready malt coming through, as well as some earthiness and graininess that might be attributable to the rye. Not a particularly assertive nose, but pleasant nonetheless.
T: Very light malt flavor out of the gates, cracker-like for the most part. This is immediately joined by the hops that were forecast in the bouquet--grapefruit is the most prominent, but the stone fruit and pineapple also come across. There's a grassiness that builds into the middle, coupled with that earthy/grainy element that must be the rye coming through. The back end takes on a more resinous--though not quite outright piney--flavor. Citrus rind is probably the best descriptor. Just a touch of cracked pepper quality in the mix, as well.
F: This one has a somewhat watery feel to it, though it's on the heftier side of light-bodied/lighter side of medium-bodied. The carbonation level is on the low side, but this one feels fairly smooth and creamy at times. Though there's definite bitter in the close and aftertaste, there's no syrupy feel to it.
O: This is a fairly standard, solid IPA in many respects. The hop notes are on point, and the addition of the rye adds some nice complexity and dimension. I do wish they had extracted a bit more flavor from my favorite hop variety, but this is one that really doesn't make any missteps. If you've got the chance--and at this very reasonable price point--I recommend giving this one a try.

Beyond impressed with this economical bomber offering. Blew my expectation out of the water. If you are apprehensive of Pearl Street as of now, try this one to see their capabilities.
