Appearance is slightly hazy yellow-gold with a decent off-white head. Aroma has notes of lemon, graham cracker, flowery noble hops and, oh my, Palmolive dish soap? Okaaay. Taste has much of the same as the aroma only with extra Palmolive dish soap. Ew. Medium mouthfeel is smooth and the prickly carbonation would make this a very refreshing beer if it were not for the dish soap issue. Probably kept it on the yeast too long. I really wanted to like this beer because it has potential underneath that one flaw. I'll try it another time to give it a second chance.

L - Pale yellow. Clear. Short white head. Not persistent.

S - Light breadiness and sweet lime.

T - Sweet light malts and bottled lime juice. Lime is evident, but not overwhelming.

F - Light.

O - I'm sure this is well made with fresh limes, but this beer doesn't present to me that way - comes across as sweet and artificial. Someone mentioned 7up and Corona - that's not far off.

I was shocked when I decided to put forth a review for Lime Twist when I noted the low ratings. I think it's time to update the world, lest they pass on this slightly off-center libation that is actually quite drinkable. Suffice it to say, ALL of the prior reviews are based on bottled-served Lime Twist and only one review in the past two years. Although I've had more than a few good bottles of Lime myself, quaffing this libation from a tap, at perfect temperatures, leads my to believe that delivery is half the battle for appreciating this fine brew.

A: Upon pouring, it was apparent the head was greater than I expected while the clarity was only slightly cloudy. This leads me to believe the bottom of the keg will have little residual yeast. Only time will tell. A great orange colored beverage with a very white head lasting almost 18 minutes until settling out.

S: The smell is absolutely lime, but not too overbearing to obfuscate the wheat. After all, it's the headiness of the wheat that attracted me to try this beer, while the lime complements the boredom of many other wheat beers.

T: I was concerned that the lime flavoring would be heavy, but Randy has done a great job of balancing the lime flavor against the wheat background. There is no fruitiness caused by the yeast, such as what would burrow through a Franziskaner, so the taste is carried mostly by the malty aroma and the exquisite smoothness one hopes to encounter. No sharpness, no bitterness, just smooth. The heat of the day begs one to move quickly to the bottom, but allowing the beer to warm lets the beer gain boldness of the lime, right up to the end.

M: No concerns here. Looking at the light cloudiness, I anticipated encountering a watery feel, but it stays well past what one would think. This really stands up longer in the middle of the mouth than many other American or New Zealand style wheat beers and the carbonation doesn't get in the way of the taste or feel.

D: I would drink this all day if allowed, especially on a hot summer day. The sweetness isn't high, while the big flavor of the fruitiness based on lime and the great mouth-feel makes this beer a standard for summer. I hope I can find more to squirrel away for the fall.

Pours a hazy gold with a large out of control head. It took 4-5 pours and 10 minutes to get the entire bottle in my pint glass. Retention is otherwise good with some lacing left on the glass.

Has a lime and almost perfumey aroma. A Key-lime pie it is not but smells like it is refreshing.

A nice distinct taste of lime at first but then a strange artificial flavor on finish. A lingering tart lime flavor settles in the mouth.

Light body with nice carbonation.

An interesting beer but the flavor is too odd for me to want to drink another. If it had a cleaner finish it would be a good drinker on a hot day.

Into a pint glass, pours a murky off-golden color, try as I might no head, splotchy lacing. Aroma is .... hold on, regaining senses.... well, nasty. Its made me cough 3 out of 5 times thus far. Ok, now that I've stopped gagging, I can say that it does smell faintly lime-like, but I like limes, and this is lime smelling, then my BO smells like cherries. With chocolate sprinkles. Don't know if I've ever given a 1 aroma before, but there it is. Nausiating.

Taste... is somewhat better. Where the aroma is overpowered by nasty lime concentrate additives, or something, the taste remains somewhat beer-like. In the background. Fending off the lime wedges with sword and dagger. How this deserved bottling, I do not know. My only solace is that it got better (that is, mellower) as it warmed. Which seems counterintuitive. The mouth.. is utterly distracted by the gagging, but I'll put it at a noble 3. And with that, pour.

Originally reviewed September 17, 2005. Bottle sampled at the Big Lake Brewfest. Strong margarita lime aroma. Orange yellow clear pour. Flavor like a corona with lime flavor added. Finish is way too watery. Misses the boat on tasting like beer, but as a Lime lover, this is quite swillable.

Ripe apricot with numerous, citrus pulp-like floaters and a few fat bubbles speeding upward. Since I saw no head formation for the first few ounces, I steadily increased the height of my pour until my arm wouldn't go any higher (it takes good hand-eye coordination). The reward was a one finger head that is very nearly gone as I type, but never disappears completely, and an absolutely clean glass.

I like the nose because it smells like fresh fruit. I'm amazed that no one has thought to brew a lime beer before; at least none that I've ever run across. Lemon is seemingly everywhere, but lime has been given short shrift. Until now. The $64,000 question is, does the beer taste as good as it smells?

Not quite, but very close. I couldn't help but notice the appallingly low average score that Lime Twist has at the moment and can only imagine the scathing comments. From where I sit, however, this is a pretty good wheat-based fruit beer. It's hard to know just how good the wheat beer itself is since the lime zestiness is very nearly overpowering.

The label says that 'natural flavor' has been added. I have no reason to doubt that claim. My artificial flavoring indicator is pretty sensitive and it detects no hint of fakery here. The beer benefits by not being overly sweet. Bitter is at least as prominent and keeps it from tasting like a wine cooler or an alcopop. This is a solid fruit ale that VBC should be proud of.

I have no complaints whatsoever about the body/mouthfeel. It's light enough to qualify the beer as summertime quaffable and is big enough to steer well clear of thin and watery. The carbonation feels more fine than it appears. Less would be too little and more would be too much.

Maybe lovers of good craft beer associate lime with Corona, I don't know. What I do know is that Viking Brewing Company's Lime Twist is a helluva fruit beer and is one that I would look forward to every summer if I was a Wisconsinite. I'm proud to be this beer's only defender. Good stuff.

Pours out pale yellow and sits orange-yellow in the glass with a small white head, fading to a glassy surface.

Lime-tainted aroma, nearly impossible to get underneath.

Deafly silent malts, no bitterness to speak of. Lime flavors mild but more present than anything else.

Light and fizzy in the mouth, mild carbonation. Not a real pleasing drink here, where's the love?

Picked up a single at Riley's here in Madison. I enjoyed their Whole Stein and Big Swede, but this isn't really in their league, being a fruity wheat beer. Eh, I'm always up for something interesting. The jury's still out on this one.

Pours a thick golden yellow with some sediment ( lime puree?), no head and no lacing. Hmmm. Smell is potent tart/sweet lime flavoring, reminded me of an old Corona with the lime in it. A lot of lime. Flavor is a more subtle version of the smell, more like a less sweet 7-up, a flattish 7-up that is, as the carbonation is pretty weak. Kinda makes this a little hard to drink. If it was a little bubblier, I could see this as a transition for girls drinking Smirnoff Ice into beer, but other than that, this is a troubling performance from Viking. Not really sure where they were going with this one, and I'm not sure they were either.

Kind of a thick pour, dark gold and more-or-less chill-hazed murky with a dismal head on top. Bare string laces spot the glass. Odd aroma, like lime shaving cream when you include scant yeast notes and a wheat bran effect. Mouthfeel is fairly heavy, with the characteristic poor Viking carbonation. Flavor does not come off well, lime and thickish cheap honey, harsh black pepper to start and very quickly descending into watery with the aroma lingering to make things unpleasant. Viscous enough to resemble green Gatorade in many flavor aspects. Just does not work well, another blech rendition from this brewery in my opinion, not recommended.

Another weird creation form Viking. I'm almost tempted to say this is suppose to be one of those trendy malt beverages and not really a beer. Anyways, its not a very good drink either way you look at it.
Color is a cloud of dark hay, lots of carbonation, only creating a thin whitish/grey cap of starchy looking froth. Not much lacing other then a few strings and dots clinging close to the edge of the liquid.

Aroma is straight up limes. Very spritey, bright, sweet, and citrafied. Very light bready pie filling and its cream of wheat cereal sugaryness keeps it close to a soda pop-like. If you like ginger ale this could possibly get you excited.

...until you drink it. Lime stinted 7-up taste all over the place. Way too much carbonation and strangely drying yeast effects on the finish. Wheat snap and tang falls flat as the lime completely covers all elements of what was probably a hefe at one time. In a word, bluckch.

Where the flavors are over the top, the carbonation is by far the overall reason this beer sucks. Its just plain soda-pop like with lots of artificial lime sourness, sugars, and weird yeast. Another aweful beer concoction from Viking leaving me to wonder if its time to take them off my list of liked Wisconsin breweries. Please make something normal. I'd even settle for an average brown ale after having this thing and that Hot Chocolate crap they tried to spew out over this last winter. Yuk.

Pours with a very sall film of head on top of a slightly hazy gold body. Smell is lime, lots and lots of lime. Very similar to smelling a piece of key lime pie while drinking a glass of 7-up. Smell has an artificial over-the-topness that isn't very pleasing or subtle. Taste is pretty rancid. The lime absolutely does not work with the wheat beer basis. This is like someone mixed flat 7-up with Vikings Weathertop Wheat. Not good at all, the beer is undercarbonated as usual with VBC. Yuck. I wonder, will I be able to finish this?
