Super interesting only because I expected "coffee-milk-stout-porter"s kinda aways good generic flavor. This one however, is nothing like that. Straight up dried fruit in the nose and taste that right away, I felt would be followed by a sourness, which never came. Very cool beer, nice surprise, will keep an eye out now for something else from Valkyrie.

12oz bottle, unknown bottling date. Served in a snifter 11/14/2014.

A- Dark brown body, opaque and dark. Minimal mocha head, very little retention time, no lacing. [3.5]

S- Coffee, dark fruit, no roast. Hint of milk chocolate. Earthy. Not particularly impressive, fairly average nose. [3]

F- Initial taste is odd, with the dark fruit flavours giving me a slight cherry flavour without any tartness; switching over fairly quickly to a mildly bitter coffee flavour mixed in with minimal milk chocolate sweetness, finishing off with a bitter, resinous earthiness and coffee bean. There is not very much depth or intensity of any one flavour; it is simultaneously strange and bland. [3.25]

M- On the thinner side; low in carbonation and quite astringent coffee bean and cherry flavours on the finish. It gets a bit more drinkable as it finishes, but for the most part it's not something I'm looking to guzzle, as it is fairly bitter and slightly metallic on the finish overall. [3]

O- Weird beer. I may have gotten an old bottle, but the coffee flavours manifest mostly as a bitterness on the finish and there is minimal lactose character with little to no roast character that porters typically have. Not a beer I would recommend, unfortunately. [3]

This pours a very dark brown/black color with a very minimal head. The aroma is mild with coffee and roasted malts. The taste isn’t is big and bold as I was expecting. The flavor is pretty simple with roasted malts, caramel malts, and coffee. At 4.5% this is missing the big bold taste that 8.0%+ stouts have. Now putting this stuff in a bourbon barrel would make it taste delicious.

War Hammer pours a black color with a nice small tan head. There is a nice creamy coffee aroma. The taste has a nice creamy coffee flavor, with a nice light malty and oatty backbone. Nice drinkable flavor, just a bit watery. Overall a nice spin on a porter, good creamy flavors, enjoyable.

Pours an inky-black to the sight (dark, cola-brown when held to direct sunlight) and topped with generous dark tan head. Head subsides at an average pace and leaves sufficient lacing behind throughout the duration of the drink.

On the nose there's more cocoa than I remember from past go-rounds, along with a slightly tangy/acidic character, some smoke and roasted/dark malts. Fairly complex but not in any sense "overwhelming" -- just a touch unique, I'd say.

First sensation and combination of thoughts as this one hits the gullet: SMOOTH. Bittersweet, roasty, aromatic, with those cocoa notes rising to the fore and all-but dominating throughout. The lactose sugar undercuts any real sweetness and adds something tangible in the area of the palate where I usually expect to find bitterness. Almost a cheese curd-like aftertaste... This beer's like washing some cheese curds down with a chocolate milk and a beer chaser, all on a hot summer's day!

Lighter roast character throughout, and combined with the cocoa and acidity it's as much like cold press / espresso as you'll find in a beer that isn't marketed as a coffee-anything ; )

This is definitely an easy-drinker, and that's a good thing as it's not too strong (4/5% ABV). In a more general sense, it's probably a little too light on the palate to impress very many people as being true-to-style. It reminds me a little of Guinness Draught in that way. So there's plenty of fizz, even a couple months out from bottling.

"War Hammer" is much as I remember it in its former incarnation as Whole Stein, even down to the yeast left in the base of the bottle!

A nice beer, not bad at all, and just a touch out of the ordinary.

Thanks to TATURBO for a bottle of this beer to sample. Thanks chris!

12oz shorty poured into snifter.

Appearance: light black bodied beer with a huge 3 fingers plus light brown head. A rootbeer float / cola like head that slowely drops down to thin cap. Not much lacing from the head, but justa little spotty lace.

Smell: Roasty and nutty. Lactose, chocolate, and oats.

Taste: Little bit of roast and milk chocolates. The beer has a finish of really salty peanuts and a bit of oxidation is noted in the beer as soy sauce, but it fairly minimal at this point. Also a little bit of roast expresso lingers once the salty peanuts and soy sauce notes subside.

Mouthfeel: Light bodied for a porter with very high carbonation. This beer has too much carbonation. Its very aggressively carbonated and really almost harsh and prickly. It does inhance the roast notes in the beer. its also a bit thinner than i would have expected.

Overall: Tame the carbonation down and make the beer a little bit thicker and you would have a great beer! It not a bad beer and its better than average, just a little bit rough around the edges.

Dusted the cobwebs off of this one, hope it's still good. Thanks to nflmvp for this one!

A-Deep, dark brown/black with a monstrous tan head (hope it's not infected) that slowly settles to a thin cap of retention. Head holds on strong and leaves nice swaths of lace.

S-Subtle and muted but notes of ashy coffee, milk chocolate and roasted malt does come though although quite disappointingly so.

T-Well, the flavours on the palate come through nicely thank you very much. Rather rich, earthy bitter, chocolate cover espresso beans with a smoothing moderation from lactose and creamy oatmeal.

M-Medium-light and feels a bit on the thin side. Decent overall though with good lingering earthy coffee and roasted chocolate malt bitterness.

D-A few misgivings give way and all totaled this turns out to be a nicely drinking brew. Full flavoured, even if a touch this in the body. A tasty combination that works well together. This would be a great flavour combo for your favorite barista!

I popped it open and started gushing everywhere, but it doesn't taste or smell infected

Pours a very dark brown/black with 3 fingers of head, lots of sediment.  Smells are leather, oats and some chocolate.  Tastes are chocolate, roasted malts, coffee and a nice cocoa finish.  Mouthfeel is pretty medium, drinkability is pretty good.
