A - Poured with no head, just a light ring of white bubbles. Clear, copper colored body.

S - Some citrus hop aroma; nothing shocking, but nice. Mild, toasted malt backbone.

T - Toasted malt and hop bitterness up front. Some moderate grapefruit flavor. Finishes bitter and toasty.

M - Medium body, moderate carbonation, and a dry finish.

D - A drinkable IPA with nice hop flavor and balance. Nothing to write home about but it is sessionable and a bit better than your average brewpub IPA.

A - Hazy medium amber with pale fade that leads to a generous rocky tan 3 finger head

S - A aroma of citrusy cascade type hops, tart apples and twiggy herbs. A decent amount of floral hops combine with a sweet footnote

M & T - Maltiness provides a full prelude of solid sweetness that opens up for the passage of hop highlights. Nuances of pine and quince as well as bitter orange with a spicy element that won't let go. A good dose of prickly, sharp bitterness from the hops accompanies the flavor of citrus while the fragrant floral hops stand up and get noticed on each returning sip.

D - a good Nw Ipa, but overall slightly malt flavor deficient. nice and full feel gives a push into the worthy end. I consider it very drinkable -It prompted me to take a growler with me. I would definitely want to have this anytime it is available.

Had on tap at Visconti's in the Leavenworth Bavarian Village.

Appearance: clear orange in color with a one finger head that lasts. Some mild lacing sticks to the glass. Light carbonation levels.

Smell: very mild citrus and pine bitterness.

Taste: decent maltiness with some soft grapefruit and bold bitterness. Mildy dry. As this warmed I found the flavors to come together even better.

Mouthfeel: crisp at the start. The finish was dry and crisp, with the bitterness coating the tongue for a while. Medium bodied.

Drinkability: mildly refreshing and easy to quaff. Pretty decent IPA here.

Had a few ways at the Fishbowl. Much better on cask and unfiltered in its better state. Poured a cloudy golden color with a big frothy dirty white head. Smelled of hops and some citrus but its just straight forward hops and malt. Good IPA with great character. I believe it is better then Fish's own IPA. Finishes bitter and the Fish's finishes smoother. A well balanced IPA it is.

Pulled from cask into a nonic and at the brewpub, Hodgsons IPA is a hazy light copper, with a small off-white head that leaves almost no lace.

Smells exceptional, big and bright punch of hops, like a fresh bag of whole cones, floral, spicy and fruity - East Kent Goldings perhaps? Love it.

Taste is much softer and rounded, with a bitter finish and fresh/wet hop aftertaste. Nice malty backbone, although not nearly enough flavor to match those wonderful aromatics, which is ultimately a let down.

Mouthfeel is light and airy.

Drinkablity is pretty good. The smoothness of cask and the fantastic aroma make up for the forgettable taste.

Hodgson's goes right to the threshold of being too bitter, then backs off just a notch. The abundance of lupulus yields a grassy, herbal aroma with a touch of cannabis, and suds -- lots of big soapy suds and a seamless wall of lace on a body of clouded orange-brown. The beer warms well and as it does, delivers strong hop flavor combining elements of grapefruit and cannabis. Nicely done.

Some might find the muscular bittering a bit too bracing, but they sure ain't skimpin' on the hops here. I'm just at a loss to understand why Leavenworth has its own IPA, independent of Fish Tale's. I thought the whole point of the Fish/Leavenworth merger was that Fish's Anglo/American beer styles would compliment Leavenworth's German traditionals.

The guy sitting next to me said he was bi-polar and whenever he felt off he came to the Fishbowl and had a pint of Hodgsons and it make him right.

This is a solid IPA that starts real bitter and then smoothes out after a few sips. The hops are always there but the beer collects its malt backbone and marches along.

Had a pint of this on-tap at The Porch in Hayden Lake, ID for $3.75.

Came a dark copper color, with a medium sized white head that left lots of lace.

Smell was an even mixture of piney and floral hops. Not an enormous hop extravaganza, but plenty enough hops here to get the point it's an American IPA. Very mild grainy scent hiding in the background.

Taste was similar to the smell. Sharp, spicy hops vie with more mild floral ones to create a veritable model of what a good IPA should taste like. While this won't make me forget DFH 90 Min. anytime soon, it was quite tasty, with a mild maltiness providing a decent backbone without being obtrusive.

Medium bodied, and I like that. I don't care for thin IPAs, so this was fine.

A nice session IPA, it went well with my cup of gumbo. Wouldn't mind seeing this on-tap at the Viking, but the current IPA of choice there is Boundary Bay's which is also very tasty.

Sampled on tap at the Fishbowl Brewpub.

A - Golden with good clarity and a small white head. It leaves some nice lacing.

S - Citrusy hops, bread and a touch of yeast. Very nice.

T - Citrusy hops and a touch of toasted malt. There's a nice lingering citrusy bitterness that reminds you this is a west coast beer. It was a bit too dry for me though.

M - A moderate consistency but toward the thinner side. Could use a little more body. A nice low carbonation.

D - At 5.5% it's not quite an IPA but the flavor and smoothness make this one very easy to drink.

This was on tap at the Fish Bowl in Olympia. It came from the tap a hazy copper orange color, with a thick white head and a sheet of lace. Nice fruity (grapefruit) nose with hints of hop flower and pine. The aroma was matched by the, more fruit and flowers accompanied by a pleasant bitterness. More flowery character comes out in the middle of the taste, and finally a light sweet malt finish. Good drinkability light mouth feel, overall a nice west coast IPA.

This was a cask growler fill. I don't think I'll be doing that again. I shared this with a few people along with other beers and people liked it, but the lack of carbination was a bit of an issue.

A- Hazy apple cider looking brew with no head at all. It must have stayed at the brewery.

S- Grapefruity in smell and really not much else. I still don't know what the deal is.

T- The taste is decent. Its almost like a thicker ocean spray grapefruit with some slight beer taste mixed in. (Same as at the brewery)

M- The carbination is not there one bit. Its thin yet thick but the lack of carbination is a big dud.

D- Easy to drink. But people wished for more carbination. I agree. Last time I try and bring something fancy.

Had this in 23-ounce pilsner glass at Visconti's in Leavenworth WA. This was definitely one of the beer highlights of my trip. Dark amber with a beautiful white head that laced down the glass. Hoppy aroma with taste of a bracing piney bitter blast that was countered with a malty sweetness. Great balance but the hops make you know you are having an IPA. Finish was smooth with a little prickle on the tongue. As the ale warmed it brought out the malt flavor.

This made me wish I had stayed longer.

Very nice beer to be sure, and certainly one of the better IPA's I had on my trip to Seattle and the surrounding burbs.

Orangey-copper color with a light head, frothy white lace.

Nose was all about pine and flowers. Not a hugely hoppy smell but it did a good job of making itself noticed, all the same. I have to remember that an IPA isn't SUPPOSED to smell like a DIPA! LOL!

Great balance in the beer - nice malty backbone for the bitterness to stack on top of - some good hop tang - spicy, and yet herbal in the taste. Held onto the back of the tongue nicely and left a growing impression with each sip.

Superb to go with the seafood chowder (tomato based) I was having, as well as the oyster po-boy of sorts...my o my, yummy stuff all around...
