poured in a stone IRS tulip.
very dark brown. A nice mocha head on it, only about a half an inch or so, then it dissipates relatively quick.
the aroma is sweet malt and mocha.
the mouth feel is medium to high body with a good amount of carb.
the taste is similar to the nose. Starts of with a sweet almost milky taste that transtions into a mocha coffee finish.
A good drinking Stout! very happy that I got the bottle, think I will go back to get some more to age.

Magnum bottle thanks to Toby. Black, oily pour small ring of beige head. 2018 vintage. Roasty aroma, chocolate, campfire, light whiskey. Taste is more of the same, velvety smooth and latent heat. Really nice.

Thanks to BrewsB4Shrews for this beer. I've been saving it for a good time, and Xmas vacation sounds like a good time. '06 vintage, so 5 years on this baby, should be interesting!
Still makes a thwop sound as I crack it, good sign. Pours a nice large 1.5 finger darker colored head that lingers for quite some time and slowly fades with nice lacing, over jet black beer, really no light shining through.
Nose is interesting, it starts with brown sugar, dates, and cocoa. Some dark baker's chocolate, and plenty of dark malts but no roast or black patent that I can detect from the nose at least. Then syrups and fruits, tons of molasses, dates and figs, dark fruits, brown sugar, and some caramel. Hint of vanilla rounds it off. Being 5 years old I don't get much bitterness, roast, hops, or booze.
Taste starts a bit off, light metallic and oxidized flavors, probably due to the age. Then malts galore, dark creamy luscious malts, black patent a bit, plenty of baker's chocolate, and heavy crystal malts. Then syrups again, molasses, caramel, brown sugar, etc. with it comes the fruits again, fig and date soaked in syrup. Booze is fairly rampant too, with a warming and plenty tingly booze. Hints of cocoa, cinnamon, and slightest hint of licorice. Creamy and almost chewy, with a lush malty feel and flavor. It finishes slightly bitter although I think more from the malts than the hops, but maybe hints of earthy hops, and a creamy sticky finish, more cocoa, syrupy flavors, molasses and caramel, brown sugar, nutty malts, more cinnamon and cocoa, and a bit of booze late.
Mouth is heavier bodied, creamy and luscious, decent carb esp for the age, plenty of booze.
Overall pretty good, shows some signs of the age with a little oxidation and hints of metallic flavors. Nice dark malts, not big on roast or bitterness, booze is definitely there. Nice malts and syrupy flavors, and nice fruits, but def a slow sipper even with its age.
