Black Color, large creamy head. Roasted malts, coffee-like flavor. Mild taste, slightly dry. Mouthfeel is a little thin for a stout, but its crisp character makes up for it. Complex and smooth. Finish is crisp and dry. Aftertaste is dry, slightly bitter.

Poured a deep deep brown with some red perhaps, small tan head with average retention. Not much retention. Taste had roasted malt with coffee. Had a dry finish to it but it left mee wanting more. Much better on draft. Never disappointed with a Fish brew.

They sure pour 'em hard at the Fishbowl. You'd think that beer engine handle was an aerobic fitness machine to watch the bartender crank down on it. Serving a cask beer requires a bit more finesse and the pint I got was exaggerated on foam and shy on beer. I drank a second pint -- for quality control purposes -- and again got a hard pour of a soft ale.

Trout Stout sports a short-loved but inviting cocoa aroma and a sustained espresso froth head. Its solid black body has a polished gloss, but the cask-conditioned version feels dilute to the tongue. The taste also lacks definition and rolls across the palate as something too vague to respond too until the finish arrives with a splash of truckstop coffee. Though cask conditioning adds a measure of worn silk to the texture, this winter seasonal doesn't rise to the occasion of an engaging session stout.

Flat malt nose. Very carbonated (larger bubbles). Not much retention. Dark opaque very deep red color. Taste is one of roasted malt with hints of coffee at first. The mouth is a little light and has too much carbonation. The finish is dry with lots of expresso tongue. An average stout. The bottle says it is a seasonal ale but I don't know when it is released.

Cheers to mattmaples for the sample.
