Was in there yesterday, and while there selection is small it has some really good choices including the Schlafly imperial stout that I have not even seen at liquor barn as well as their pumpkin beer which liquor barn has been out of for weeks. I had a nice conversation with one of the employees and they are soon offering a schlafly 5 course dinner where each course is paired with one of there beers. Looks like while their shelve space is small they are trying to cater to the micro crowd.

Plus the service was excellent the man I was talking to was knowledgeable and genuinely excited to be talking beer. I will definitely be stopping in there to check out the new acquisitions every know and again.

Surprised to find beer at this store. It seems that everyone in the beer community understand that beer does have a nutritious value, but it is seldom recognized by retailers or the general public. So, hats off to Wild Oats. Their beer selection, albeit slim, was of high quality micros and brewers. Because of their slim selection, I recomend choosing another beer store for a serious beer run, but if you are in the store for cheeses, vegetables, lunch, or exotic ingredients; then it's worth browsing by the beer aisle and picking up an Elliot Ness or a Mocha Porter.

How have I missed putting a review up for this place? First off, this is a marketplace and not a dedicated beer store, so that needs to be taken into account if you are going to visit. There are lots of great organic and specialty foods available here that you won't find other places. All the beer, on the other hand, can be found at other stores in town. I'm not sure how fast this place moves their product, but I recall seeing the same brews time after time on the shelves and I don't tend to see folks with beer in the carts, so I don't think they do a lot of sales, meaning product may be old. I have never had to ask for help nor have I had help offered to me, so I'm not really sure what to say about service. Selection is well below that of other spots in town and there are really no beers here that you can't find elsewhere. Being an organic-type place, prices are a little on the high end for everything, including the beer. All in all, this is a very nice place to go and shop, but I would not use it as a beer store unless I really had no other choice.

Like most other Wild Oats shops this one offers a nice, if not overwhelming selection of quality beers. These shops are very good in the way they present and provide good, wholesome foods and beer is a welcome addtion to their mix. All the ones I've visited seem to have a nice mix of imports, craft beers, and locally available micro brews. I enjoy shopping at the Wild Oats stores.

I agree with Sheep. I thought it fairly odd for a Natural/Health food store to sell beer. Isn't beer supposed to be not-so-good for the ol' fat intake and just generally not-too-good for you? Oh well, any place that wants to sell beer gets a thumbs up from me. They had a very interesting selection here, as Sheep has said. They don't have any of your mainstream macrobrews, but they have a decent little selection of microbrew stuff as well as some of the good imports that you don't find at places like Kroger and small liquor shops. They had some of the Dogfish stuff, the Floyd's stuff, and some of the Stone brews that came in the large bottles. Very cool. The staff is there for the health food, not the beer, so they don't know much about it, but they are very friendly and try to be as helpful as possible. Gotta say that I was very impressed with this place.

Wild Oats Natural Marketplace doesn't sound like the kind of place where you would find good beer, but it is a small gem in Lexington. You won't find the largest selection of beer here, as it isn't their specialty, but you will find some quality brews. You can get bombers of Stone and Rogue products, 6-packs of Great Lakes Brewing or Bell's, and various larger bottles of Belgian and Belgian-style brews, like Ommegang, Hoegaarden, Delirium Tremens & Nocturnum, Lindeman's, and more. They do have other imports like Spaten, Franziskaner, other german brews, and typical Mexican and Asian beers. They do not carry any Bud/Miller/Coors though, which is a good thing to me. The staff isn't very knowledgeable about the beer, but that's expected in a health food store. The beer does appear to be kept very fresh though. Not a bad place to hit in Lexington if you don't want to go out of your way to get to Liquor Barn.
