Notes/Commercial Description:
This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

Our summer ale is for hop lovers! Huge amounts of Centennial and Magnum hops are used in the boil of this IPA style. Further we take an additional step to dry-hop the fermenting brew in the tank with ample amounts of Cascade hops. All of these hop flowers add a unique and pleasant citrusy flavor perfect with spicy backyard barbeques! Although the focus is on the hops a substantial amount of Munich malt provides a nice backbone for this unique version of Summer Ale.

12oz bottle served in a pint glass
pours very foamy with a huge off white head, beer itself is a slightly cloudy copper color and there seem to be a few floatys in there too. The smell is quite citrusy and yeasty. The citrus is a hoppy citrus and a bit of lemon while there doesn't seem to be much in the way of malt to back the hops. The taste is a bit tangy sort of metallic and very bitter there doesn't appear to be much in the way of caramel or any kind of malt to support or balance the hops. The mouthfeel isn't that great either mainly because this beer is too one dimensional. Overall, not the best American IPA. It has its' flaws mainly in it's lack of balance and dimension.

Fleeting hops for an all too fleeting season. Following the pour, you notice a copper colored ale with a fluffy head that is retained for a respectable amount of time. The smell is all hops and when you sip you are met with a hoppy punch that promptly gives way to a mellow bread taste. This beer sits creamily in your mouth but departs with a final dry and bitter tinge. The bitter hops are presented, retracted, and replaced by smooth summer freshness, which makes for a happy summer session beer.

On draft at the brewery.

Poured a medium copper hue with a two finger frothy white head. There was good retention and lacing.

The smell featured piney and citric hops and a slightly toasted malt.

The taste offered an initial burst of citrusy hops that transitioned into a prickly pine on the tongue. A husky pale malt rounded out the flavor.

The mouthfeel was of average fullness for the style.

Overall a very tasty alternative to the lighter summer offerings.

pours a light copper with patchy white head. aroma is as citrusy as promised, but a little bready too.

roles are reversed in the flavor where the floral hops come in second to the bready malts. bitterness does work stealthily in the background though. the result is a very balanced IPA.

smooth, dry, and medium-bodied, this summer ale is not for the timid... but it is for me.

Pours a ever-so-slightly cloudy coppery-orange with a chalky head that rises just to the lip of my shaker glass before settling to a thin layer. Aroma is pale ale all the way... sure there are some fruity hoppy notes but they blend in well with some toasted bread and a touch of sweetness.

Wow this beer is smooth. The hops try to fight through and take over, but thankfully everything is in balance. There is plenty of orange zest but also some biscuit. Sweet finish but not overdone.

This isn't the best pale/IPA I've had, but if you're looking for a good session option this summer, I would definitely snag a six-pack of this. Has enough flavor - but not too much - to keep everybody happy for hours.

On tap @ Union Brewhouse

Pours a typical UBH pour with very scant head. Crystal clear with copper highlights.

Clean, light hop aroma with a hint of lemon.

Very soft upfront leads to a nice hoppy, bubbly finish. A bit bitter and a bit alcohol burn.

Overall, a very acceptable quaff for the summer. I will need to test side by side with other offerings but IMO, given the decent ABV, this will make my Sumer list this year.

12oz brown bottle with a freshness date. Nearly clear golden copperish color, head rise up to play on the glass. Hint of citric zest and caramel with some vague fruit and fresh grain in the nose. Creamy smooth medium body. Quite malty with bready overtones though there is more than enough hops to top it which actually try to dominate but eventually find some balance. Bitterness is pretty high though the hop flavor shines a bit more. Fruity and a tad estery with a semi-dry finish.

Good twist on the summer seasonal, hop forward and a bit bigger but still very drinkable.

12oz bottle into short's imperial pint.

A- Nice orangey copper, 2 fingers eggshell white head, moderately sticky lacing. I like the dark color of this one.

S- Fantastic, oodles of hops. Floral/tropical fruit, mild malt sweetness.

T- Big bitter burst. Very resiny, orange and tangerine. Also some floral and grassy notes. Malt is pretty substantial, a little grainy and earthy. Still, hops dominate.

M- Good carbonation, heavy mouthfeel considering ABV, but it's enjoyable.

O- My favorite Newport Storm beer, glad to see it back. Get it while it's fresh!

12oz bottle into pint glass.

Appearance - Pours a slightly hazy orange amber with lots of visible carbonation. Nice big white head with fantastic retention. Recedes very slowly and leaves sheet lacing in its wake.

Smell - Lots of citrus and tropical fruit in the nose. Sweet caramel in the background. Smelly juicy.

Taste - Light bready and caramel malt flavors up front fade into a citric hop finish. Lots of delicious hop flavors add complexity to the beer. Malt profile reminds me of a good pale ale. It adds nice depth. Moderately bitter finish.

Mouthfeel - Medium-bodied with an almost thick and chewy consistency. Very very smooth and cream across the tongue. I like that this is a smooth beer, but the thickness makes it a little more dense and filling.

Drinkability - Picked up a 6-pack of this while on vacation in Rhode Island and am pleasantly surprised. An all around good IPA and a great refreshing and juicy summer beer. Definitely not your typical "light and fluffy" summer ale.
