Ebel's Weiss beer is a very traditional German Hefeweizen that is naturally unfiltered. It has wonderful malt sweetness and a soft aroma of clove, vanilla, and banana. This deep golden colored weiss will make you think you are in Bavaria.

I brought a bottle of this back from Chicago last night, and boy am I anxious to try it. I pour it into a weisse glass and see that, as the label indicates, the somewhat pale weisse color is suffused with an orangish tint. The head is large and nearly white. It's not quite a Schneider head, but it's totally worthy, and it pillows beautifully into a whipped-cream cloud. The smell is extremely citrusy, reminding me of a witbier.

I take a taste and find that the lemon is indeed overdone. Way overdone. It tastes closer to a Blanche de Brooklyn than a weiss, but it's not as good as the blanche because the lemon is so overdone that it's starting to remind me of lemon drops! This is a textbook example of my axiom "When I taste that much lemon it makes me wonder what they're trying to hide." With each passing sip the sweetness disturbs me more and more. If it weren't for that sweetness I'd be less inclined to say that the lemon is overdone, but man... the finish is so lemony that a minute after a take a swallow I'm still puckering from the sweet/sour tang in the back of my mouth!

Aside from being way too lemon-droppy, it's not as full-bodied, chewy, and wheaty as a weissbier should be. These guys need to take some lessons from Schneider. I can barely even taste any yeast over this s**t. I'm not finishing this one. The ham-handed, clumsy way in which they throw the lemon around is really pissing me off.

"Best by 1/22/21"; drank 12/6/21 @ the Yarchives.

Cloudy dull orange/yellow appearance.

A rough pour yielded a small white head; nice lacing.

Banana, soft wheat, mild clove & faint lemon notes in the nose.

Soft, medium mouthfeel.

Banana, soft wheat & mild clove flavors; a simple, very effective hefe. I'd have another!

On-tap at the Two Brothers Roundhouse

Ebel Weiss 22oz weizen glass tap $8

A- Hazy golden-yellow-orange body with a fluffy white head of 1-1/2 fingers with great retention and stick.

S-Classic banana/clove and a little lemon

T- As the aroma suggests. Lots of banana and clove with hints of lemon and some more bubblegum.

A-Creamy, medium body.

O- Great classic take. Very well done. Super nice on a hot summer afternoon at the brewery after soccer.

12oz bottle, shared with my wife; a gift from her aunt Grace. Best By 03/17/19. The last time I had this was probably almost 10 years ago and I wasn't a fan. Rigorous pour produces a hazy yellow-golden body capped by a very thin white head that holds minimal retention. Aroma is definitely weissbier and smells good: banana, clove, wheat, lemony citrus, earthy hops. Flavors are less appealing: lots of banana esters with wheat, clove, lemongrass, and noble hops; but it's too much banana making it sweet. Lighter body, ample carbonation, sweeter finish. Still just ok in my opinion. Too much banana - fermented too warm? So many other options out there that it will probably be another 10 years before I have this again.

Draft imperial pint at Midway airport Chicago. Somewhat cloudy golden yellow color , very sparse white head. Big clove and banana aroma. Flavor follows with prickly pepper and wheat spice to differentiate it and give extra character. A bit of vanilla in there too. Very nice with my Cobb salad.
