I've tried this one twice. The first time my reaction was, "Is this beer a delicious, but overwhelming work of art, or kind of just overwhelming?" The second time, my reaction was the same.

This beer is as advertised. It is truly "hop juice" and is "extreme" and for "hopheads only". So big props to these guys, they've created one of the strongest tasting beers I've had. Not super bitter "high" notes, but rather strong, deep hoppy and piney mid-notes. But it strikes me as syrupy, and hence a low drinkability rating.

I will buy this one again, when I want to show some friends a BIG hop DIPA, or I crave something like this. But the lack of balance in flavor makes me say this is not a beer I can drink very often.

I love this beer. I tried the last brew under the name, Hop juice but I have to say that they make bells a run for their money with Hopslam. This is the closest I have found to an old brew of Hopslam. It's smooth, well balanced & the mouthfeel is amazing. I absolutely love this beer!!!

Once again, this site's dictums cause it to trip over its own feet. This used to be called "Hop Juice" but when they changed its name, it also became an annual with each iteration deserving of its own listing. I a) have no idea how to unscrew this mess nor b) do I have any inclination to do so. I am now merely a reviewer and occasional poster where I was once an unpaid and abused BFG. Onward!

From the bottle: "Artisan Bottling"; "We Squeeze To Please"; "Two Brothers is a craft brewery on the outskirts of Chicago that specializes in rare and seldom-brewed beer styles. The two of us - Jason and Jim Ebel - strive to produce the very best beers available anywhere."; "We hope that you enjoy them as much as we do!"

This bottle is marked: "Believe In the Swirl 2013" FWIW.

I went with a gentle pour as I was unsure about what "The Swirl" may be referring to, plus it has been in my fridge for an extended period. Although it was initially sans head, an employment of the server's trick created a foamy finger of tawny head with decent retention. Color was a deep coppery-amber (SRM = 4 -5) with NE-quality clarity. Nose had begun to go over to a caramel sweetness, but the minty intensity of the hops was still quite evident. Mouthfeel was medium-to-full with an intense heat followed by a combined one-two blast of caramel sweetness followed closely by an intense minty hoppiness. Holy hops, Batman! Once more, my poor, bruised tongue wondered what I was trying to do to it. The inherent heat in this one had not diminished in the least, despite my inadvertent aging. Jesus! My throat constricted, I choked and gagged and when I recovered, I could not wait to take another deep draught. This was a DIPA for hopheads, especially, and NOT for the faint of heart.

My original, Hop Juice review dtd 02 June 2008 with scores of 3.5; 3.5; 4; 4 and 4 follows:

The pour produced a finger's worth of bone-white head with low retention. The color was a murky orangish-amber. The nose was full of hops, but somewhat muted from the last time that I had this beer. The mouthfeel was medium with a grassy hops flavor on the tongue. The finish was definitely hoppy and very flavorful. I want to revisit this one.
