22oz. bomber poured into a tulip. Not going to lie: the on-bottle marketing/label design totally got me on this one. I'd never heard of Two Brothers before, but the bold font reading HOP JUICE was hard to look past. The visual of a hop getting wrenched over a pint glass was awesome as well. So desire was created in this instance.
A: The color upon pouring is somewhere between a light amber and burnt orange. Looks a little "thin," you could say, meaning that it's diaphanous. The head is one-finger thick, creamy, and buttermilk biscuit colored.
S: Rich, spicy, dank! Almost caramel-like hop & malt character and bittersweetness too. Minty... like spearmint gum or pine needles. At just about 10%, the alcohol is well hidden.
T & M: That first taste is almost violent--the taste buds are knocked into blissful submission. Very aggressive, dank hop bite. Full bodied, syrupy, and an ass-kicking bitter aftertaste. Medium carbonation, a little chewy, and alcohol warmth on the back end. There's a slightly detectable malt base trying to steer this one back to balanced, but I'm pretty sure the brewers didn't want it to be. This is unabashed in its hop monstrosity. Also, by bomber's end there's a thin film of hop resin stickiness on the lips. Pretty cool.
D: Want to forget a hard day at the office? Get pulled over doing 90 in a 55? Your team just suffer a devastating loss? This brew will make your and your sensory organs forget it all. It's a beast of a DIPA... which lowers its drinkability score overall. But it has it's time and place and I'll have it again.
