Poured from a 12 oz. can into a chalice.
A: Slightly hazy, light amber color with over one finger of parchment-tinted foam head. Medium lacing remains on the glass.
S: Grain is caramelized and husky, while hops are piney with some lesser semi-dark citrus. Other mixed fruit qualities reinforce heartiness of the malt.
T: Begins very off-dry, with chewy caramel malt and equally robust hop aromatics that match the smell well. Acidity is mild into the middle where citrus qualities darken before bitterness is quick to replace other hop-derived flavors. Bitterness becomes pronounced by the finish, where a mineral edge is detected.
M: Medium viscosity, resinous and slightly syrupy on the palate, with moderate carbonation.
D/O: This beer's qualities are intense for its strength--it's 6.3% abv (as listed on the package) is the only feature that clearly separates it from the majority of beers from Lagunitas or Oskar Blues. As an IPA it is rather unremarkable, although the smell and flavor are closely tied.
