Served from a 12 oz. bottle. Pours a medium pale golden, with a significant amount of foam that persists quite nicely, leaving about a 3/4 layer on top, and a nice amount of lacing. Decent aroma, with a prevalent maltiness, and apricot/hop notes in the background. Piney hoppy notes come to the fore upon tasting. Maltiness is a bit more understated than I would have liked for the style. Mouthfeel is good, with a welcome full-bodiedness, though I would have preferred a bit more carbonation. Overall, an enjoyable drink, if a bit hoppy for my ideal of the style.

Two Brothers is a brewery from the Chicago area that has made a splash here in New York City with its wide range of excellent renditions of many styles of beer, Ale and Lager alike. While this is far from the first of their beers, which range in style from Belgian Farmhouse Ales to this Dortmunder Style Lager, that I've tried, it struck me that Two Brothers has really outdone itself with this, arguably the most humble style it has tackled. Dortmunder style Lagers were amongst the first German Lagers to be consumed en masse in Europe -- a German take on the Czech Pilsen beer, the "Export" Lager version of this beer, at a slightly higher ABV than other varieties, caught on and eventually molded all Lagers from that point on. The Two Brothers version is a crisp and refreshing beer, with all kinds of subtle flavors going on -- spicy, sweet, citrusy, and more. Mostly though, this is one of the most drinkable and tasty beers that I've had in a long time in terms of sheer drinkability. The Dog Days beer is perfect for summer days, where you want your beer to have some real flavor, but you want to drink a lot, and you don't want to be praying for death the next morning. This has all of those qualities, and it pours a beautiful, perfectly carbonated golden color with a big white head and all the smells you could hope for in a beer. An excellent take on an under-investigated style and another winner for Two Brothers.

Pours a hazy golden color with a one finger head. Aroma is very mild with sweet malts and faint hops. Taste is an excellent sweet bread - very malty. Just enough hops come through to cleanse the sugary taste away and keep it from being too sweet. Mouthfeel is very good, not too light. Very drinkable summer beer. Not quite a lawnmower beer, very nice.

This lager pours a clear, honey gold body with a small white that deposits some patchy lacing. Aroma is toffee maltiness and spicy and floral noble hops. Well carbonated and light bodied in the mouth. Taste is crispy, biscuity malts and a substantial floral hops bitterness. Well balanced, overall, and a very drinkable lager style that would be ideal for a session.

Poured from a 12 oz. can into a tall pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a bright and clear straw golden orange with a moderate amount of bubbles. Big three finger white head which slowly fades into a thin patchy layer. Leaves a decent amount of lacing.

Smell: A bready and fairly sweet malt forward aroma with good hints of biscuit and cracker. Upfront malt with bready hints of biscuit, straw, cracker, caramel, grains, and yeast. Earthy hints of Noble hops. Subtle fruit hints of lemon, apple, and orange. A pretty solid lager aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a crisp, bready, and fairly sweet malt driven taste with nice notes of biscuit and caramel. Bready malts with some upfront notes of biscuit, caramel, cracker, straw, grains, cereal, wheat, and yeast. Solid earthy backing of hops with some notes of Noble hops. Light fruit notes of lemon, orange, and apple. A nice crisp Dort lager flavor.

Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Crisp, clean, and nicely smooth and drying on the finish.

Overall: A pretty solid take on a Dortmunder style Lager. Solid crisp bready taste with a nice backing of Noble hops.

Light gold in color with copper hues. Bright white thin head with short retention. Spotty lacing.

Citrus, saltine crackers, hints of green apple, vanilla curd.

Green apple, pear, lemon zest, biscuit, slightly toasty on the finish.

Medium bodied core with a slightly watery texture. Short finish.

Serviceable lager.

Golden color, clearish, with a thin 1/4 inch head of decent duration. Laces are simple and spare in a pint glass. A fair bit of spicy hop aroma, some cinnamon and an earthy wet canvas maltiness that works better than it sounds (I occasionally use "wet canvas" to describe some pretty foul brews). Thin body, medium carbonation. Malt falls in the toasted range of bread and is reserved. Respectably balanced with a good late hop twang. A very good summer beer for drinkability and balance, but a little tame overall and lacking in memorable body.

Did I mention that I pretty much love the Two Brothers beers I've tried. This is the nicest easy going balanced summer session beer I've come across. Pours a bright golden hue with egg shell white head, forming nice speckled lacing with each sip. Aroma has light biscuit malts and herbal grassy/strong mineral water notes in the finish. A solid liquid bread type of beer, tastes clean and smooth with ample balance a crip hoppiness goes quite nicely with the semi sweet biscuit/cracker notes. A sight lemongrass herba tones in the finish. Mouthfeel is light bodied solidly carbonated with ample CO2, smooth going down I could have went for a whole six instead of a single. Great tasting brew that deserves be drunk in number during the Dog Days of Summer.

(Served in an American pint glass)

A- This beer has a warm yellow body with a faint hazy. There is a white bubbly head that fades to a white ring after a bit that is supported by a strong carbonation of bubbles.

S- The soft smell of dry malt with a faint toast note. There is a noble hops bitterness in the finish. The smell overall is pretty faint.

T- The bittern punch of noble hops dominates the taste with a faint pale malt aftertaste. There is a slight tartness to the hop note with a sulfur bite to the hops.

M- This beer has a light crisp mouthfeel.

D- The punch of hops bitterness doesn't have any depth and the malt flavors are nice and fresh but very faint and a bit hidden behind the hops.

Dirty lemon yellow and cloudy with a firm spongy looking white head. The head actually looks like one of those mr. clean magic eraser pads.

The smell is slightly estery with the scent leaning towards an apple or white wine scent. Very mild and not inviting, to me the scent is ho hum.

Taste is ok. Not stupendous or thrilling, not even a little dazzling. There is a light apple/ cidery flavor with a touch of malts but that is all, there is just no real flavor. I wouldn't pour it out but I might forget about it after a few sips. Its the kind of beer I'll find the next day in a half full glass because I didn't remember to drink it.

This beer is boring, worth trying if you like moderately flavored beer. There is an itty-bitty hop bite in the aftertaste which is the only sign of life in the beer. The malts get more apparent as it warms but they never make a run for the gold.

Dog Days is a crisp-looking, slightly hazed pale yellow-gold in color. A pure white cap of head rises to just over a finger in height and retains itself fairly well despite fading a bit quickly, continuously kept at a sturdy foam by constant bubbling activity. Spotty lacing is left pretty well down the glass.
It's July 19th. The best-by date on the bottle is 8/27/12. Am I missing something? Infection? Great Lakes Dortmunder sure didn't smell like this. I'm completely thrown off. Sulfur. Eggs. Hops underneath, some grassiness, dry malts, yes, but on top of that is gross sulphur and eggs. What?
It tastes similar, if not somewhat more put goether, with more of the other flavors coming out and the sulphur and eggs backing off. They don't back off enough to make this a particularly pleasant experience, though.
The feel, when I can get past the flavor to focus on it, it light and crisp, refreshing and moderately clean, though a little slick on the back end going into a pretty dry finish.
I really like Two Brothers. Everyone gets one miss. This is theirs.

12oz bottle

App: Suspended solids in a lager?! That's all I have to say

Smell: Wonderfully fresh. Sweet apple malt and a hint of hops. A little too ale-like for me.

Taste: A slight sweet start, with medium body. The flavor quickly turns to a crisp, minerally bitterness which is spot on for the style. Ends with caramel apple sweetness.

There's something not quite right about this beer. Too sweet; too fruity. They said it was their only lager, so it makes sense that it's rather ale-like

Pale gold, partially hazed, with a compacted milky head.
Bready malt aromatics coupled with metallic, grassy note notes.
Taste stays part and parcel to the nose. Bready malt base. Think lightly toasted whole wheat bagels. A subtle sense of honey sweetens things up. THe later half is dominated by hops, Earthy and grassy, with an underlying steel edge.
Medium light bodied. A hair thin, but a quaffer, for sure.
Not ubercomplex (nor should it be). And also not GL Dortmunder Gold. Nonetheless, it hits the style, and the spot, fairly well.

A - Golden hued clear lager with a firm little head of white bubbles. I little bit of lace sticking to the glass separates this from standard macro lagers, but it's pretty boring looking.

S - Buttery caramel and light hops make up the basic aroma.

T - Like it smells, this one is pretty basic but tasty enough. Light caramel sweetness is perfectly balanced with a hint of hops.

M - Light in body, with some lively carbonation without being raspy. The finish is neutral with very little aftertaste.

D - This was our first stop on my bachelor party micro-brewery pub crawl, and most of my buddies drank this since they are weirded out by most craft brews. A basic but satisfying lager.

Pale golden-yellow appearance and an ample, almost over-carbonation upon pouring. Thick, white, and creamy head that gives way to a large, rather impressive lace.

Nose is biscuity, with wheat and malts dominating. Not bad.

Taste is sharp at first, with a definite bread and yeast character. Hints of citrus hops are also omnipresent, making this one a very tasty, balanced, and well-done lager. I would drink more of these, no problem.

Appearance: Golden apple cider. Not a whole lot of lacing, but there is some foam.

Smell: Apple cider and lemonade.

Taste/Mouthfeel: Lemonade and apple cider. Very dry. Flavor is decent, but mouthfeel is thin and a bit cloyingly sweet in the finish.

Overall Drinkability: I was excited to dry this and hoped it would be a good summer Dortmunder when I tried it at the Two Brothers Tap House.

Poured into an Imperial Pint Glass.

A: Short head retention with a light, white nose. Golden body with a hint of orange hues.

S: The aroma is present on this lager, a tad bit of malty bitterness. A clean dry aroma.

T: Bright bust of hops with a subtle off taste of malts. A good overall lager with a nice medium bodied taste. A bit short on the carbonation.

M: A short refreshing mouthfeel. The taste does not linger long, but the medium body adds a thicker mouthfeel while it is there.

D: I feel that this over other Lagers is a better overall taste with a great drinkability.

Overall: Great beer that I would come back to or recommend to others when looking for a Lager.
